I read on another forum someone saying, based on GM's statements: "The Suburban uses less gasoline than the Prius!" The fine print is that you have to use E85, get 30-40% less mileage, and find a place that sells E85. The statement was true, but it twists the meaning. In the end your using more fuel/gallon than a Prius, just less of it is petroleum based.
In general, any and all that you might base your statements on but in this particular case the one that explains how GM is the leader in mpg across all vehicle segments.
Why not? Most of the domestic car/truck/suv advertisements I see are doing essentially this anyway. B)
It depends how the segments are divided up, I agree. How would you divide up the segments. Seven car segments and four truck van and suv segments? Obviously spin is a huge part of all of this and who is doing the spinning. This chat room is for Prius enthusiasts who I believe for the most part are driving their prius to help the environment. Does it strike anyone as strange that Jim Press can make a public statement like he did and it is barely questioned on here adn not questioned at all in the media? What would the response have been on here if Bill Ford or Rick Wagoner had made a similar statement and introduced the 'biggest badass truck. It would have been all over here and the media about how unethical GM and Ford are and how all they sell are gas-guzzlers. Toyota makes the announcement and all that is written is what a great truck it must be and it will hurt Ford and GM. Could someone at least admit that to me or wasn't a double standard applied?
He said GM leads more segments than any other manufacturer. But that is just GM making a segment designation every time it suits their whim. I wonder how often a GM segment is a vehicle of one You and I might place an HHR and a Prius in the same 'segment', but not GM. Or place a Malibu and a Camry Hybrid in the same 'segment', but again, not GM. If you want to call Malorn at his game, just ask him to pick the GM competitor to each Toyota or Honda vehicle. We have played this game before. He either says GM does not compete in that 'segment', or picks a vehicle only a GM dealer could offer without blushing.
Take out the Prius and the corolla and then show me the toyota dominance over GM. Remember the camry hybrid has not been built yet.

I know i am already way over half of all the vehicles Toyota retailed in 2006. The average person on the street would never believe it. When we start salespeople they are always amazed as to what the fuel rating actually are. the fuel rating comparison have a far larger 'wow' factor if i compared Chevy to say a comparable Nissan. Most people just assume, its Japanese it gets the best fuel mileage and has the best quality.

Okay, I compared a 4cyl Camry v. 4cyl Malibu. Camry wins by 1mpg on highway, city they are equal. Camry gets 10hp more and has a longer powertrain warranty.Camry v. Malibu And by the way, the Camry got one star more in ratings.

I did not say all. I just compared the comparable chevy to over half of the vehicles toyota sells every year.

After you set up the basis of comparison, I will look at emissions, FE, and reliability for a 5 year old car (you may pick any reputable site for the reliability data).
Shall I use Consumer Reports? And just so you can do your usual pick and choose the ratings that suit you, I'll inform you that CR recommends the Malibu.
