it's the cord. Our cars burn through the cords every month or two and you have to get another one. Especially on the iPhones
it's probably iphone specific. I have just lost another chord in this past month.
Happens sometimes with my iPhone. It's really bad with voltage draws.
update to getting the Anker line: Did help for a week and then it's bad again.

I got to get this chord. My iPhone X new line was working fine for a few months and then it starts doing it again.
I know exactly the issue. The terrible Toyota radio is eating through our iphone chords. New chords will last about 2-3 months before this issue...

On my car with iPhone X also which just started recently. It’s very annoying now with USB problem that Toyota cannot fix.
They have agreed to pay for one of my payment of the finance but it's been almost a month they have not done it yet...
Yeah, everything else works except USB and Toyota Corporate have officially gave up on my car and sent the data to Denso which makes the head unit.
They had quite a few battery inflating problems already. Kind of scared of getting a new iphone now haha
