I think you are right about abs codes..
if it shows 3 codes then it connected, how else would it know if the cars running Id disconnect the ground wire on the 12 volt battery to clear...
did you push the lever down until it clicked? Im sure theres a video on youtube somewhere you can watch to make sure you are doing it right
