    Dimensions for the group sizes are standard. Just look them up on the Internet. Gen 2 Prius uses JIS B20 and JIS B24 as pictured above, and Gen 3 Prius uses JIS B24. Gen 4 and Gen 5 Priuses use BCI 140R/DIN H4/EN LN1 (equivalent group sizes).

    The model no. is 345LN1-MF. The battery is not custom made but available for general sale. F and P1 are label codes. However, the F label on the Gen 4 battery is custom made for Toyota. ;)

    GS Yuasa's model code, maybe? Same pattern as 'Y6'. Not found anything by searching. Everything else on there is capacity/size specs.

    P1 is only a code that identifies the label so that the correct label can easily be attached at the factory. Different countries may have different labels in different languages etc. for the same battery. Also, the labels could be different for different OEMs for the same battery with the same model no., hence a different label code.

    Y6 is not a label code. It is a model line. It goes as a prefix in the model nos. of the Y6 line such as Y6-355LN1. Note that 355 is the performance rank, a larger number indicating a higher capacity and CCA. The Prius battery has a performance rank of 345, being lower than that for the Y6 line.

    Not sure if this should be a new thread. Searched for this info but nothing coming up.

    Trying to confirm aprox price for Toyota OEM replacement 12V battery for Gen 5 Prius and Plug In.

    I provided 2024 Prius vin # and both Longo and my local dealership verbally told me $200 plus 1 hr labor and additional core fee. Some Prius owners who have actually just had their 12V battery replaced under warranty are being told the cost of this battery is much higher. I’ve attached a part number and price I found on Longo’s website. Much higher price but in line with what others have been quoted. $1000 for 12 volt battery? Hopefully this info is wrong.

    After the warranty expires (in three years), an AGM upgrade is $125.98 + tax on Amazon.

    Ok thanks. Now I can sleep tonight. I’ll take a look at it tomorrow. I can’t buy a car that needs a $1000 12V battery.

    For our purposes here, Toyota uses two different types of batteries. There are the ones that are installed at the factory, and there are the replacement batteries installed by dealers(TrueStart). You'd think they'd be the same, but they're not. It's not because one is better than the other, it just has to do with logistics. Batteries are heavy and at least somewhat dangerous to transport. So it's often cheaper to source the replacement battery closer to the customer country or continent. So for a Japan-built Toyota sold in the US, the original battery might be manufactured in Japan, Taiwan, or another Asian country, while the replacement battery might be manufactured in the US or Mexico.

    It's more nuanced than that, but it's a place to start.

    So this means you'll see two different part numbers for the battery of a car. For a gen5, the original battery is the one you linked(28800-21223), while the replacement battery is 00544-H4052-470. The reason the former is pushing $1k, is because it's effectively a special order plus it includes the massive shipping costs to get it from Japan to the US. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you could count the number of 28800-21223 batteries sold in the US on one hand. The part number is in the system because it has to be, but it's not really intended to be sold.

    (As a side note, the replacement battery for the gen5 is actually a fair bit bigger in capacity than the factory battery.)

    28800-21223 - MSRP of $1155.64
    00544-H4052-470 - MSRP of $206.00

    You're basically looking for an H4, 140R, or LN1. It also needs a side port to vent any hydrogen gas.

    The long story short, the Toyota dealer is the worst place to buy any kind of battery unless you still have the warranty.

    And @daisy555, yes, this is a standard-size battery (BCI 140R/DIN H4/EN LN1) commonly sold at many places. See the AGM thread I linked for purchase and installation details.

    Thanks! I’m not able to install my own battery. Always wishing I still lived in CA so I could eventually skip over the dealership and go to an independent hybrid mechanic. The only independent mechanics I trust with my car are crazy busy and haven’t been available when I needed help or a simple oil change. Plus one of them is as pricey as dealership and the other told me to stay away from buying a Prius. : }
