I believe the Car Care Nut did a video about the Xtool.
    Link:

It's about 2 years old and no clue how well it'd work with the Gen 5. I tried looking at what it covers on their website for Gen 5 and didn't seem much but they should roll out updates. I was considering getting one when the bumper warranty runs out but don't know of anyone who uses it yet. You can be our first!

3 years ago the car nut posted the video, D7 scanner.

Both videos are old news. But still of interest to me.

I have an Xtool D7S that works great on our Hyundai Sonata. Used it to fix a Steering Angle Sensor ( SAS ) issue.

I haven't tried it yet on the Prius. However, I have no doubt that it would work well. The D7S is a great, and well supported, unit. Customer service is also reported to be very prompt as well.

BTW - All Xtool units are Android tablets with software built on top. All updates, etc...are done over wifi. My unit had over 200 updates to apply when I first booted it up!

I have an Xtool D8S, but I haven't gotten around to trying to do an ABS brake bleed procedure using it yet.

I want to try it on our 2010 Camry 3.5L V6 first before trying it on our 2011 Prius hatchback and then on our 2016 Corolla.

I bought both the XTool D7 and D8 but returned both. I felt they were not ready for prime time . I subsequently bought a Topdon Phoenix Lite 2 which works great and product support has been excellent. I also own an Autel MS906BT but got tired of the annual renewal fee @ $400.

I have used the Topdon to customize several settings that typically the dealer can only do. I changed the turn signal flasher volume to high and the number of flashes from default 3 to 5.

    Cheers

I've had an XTool D7 for almost 3-years and it's very good but I haven't had to do many complicated tasks with it. I did try to add a new key fob to my daughter's Mazda a few years ago and couldn't get it to program....had to go to a pro and, even then, they had a hard time. (I've learned the Mazda's are notoriously difficult with their key fobs.)
When I changed out the transmission fluid in my Tundra. the D7 was great to provide the real-time transmission temperature and I double-checked it with a little laser-temperature gun (aimed at the top of the transmission pan) and surprised they were within a few degrees of each other...so will just go with the temp gun for future services. (Much easier.)
My free 3-year subscriptions for updates with the D7 run out this January so will have to see what they charge for yearly updates...it does seem to have 100 or more updates to download whenever I turn it one...which is about every 4-6 weeks.

Out of curiosity, what were the XTools missing? And I assume it was on the 2024 Prime?

I have the Carista that allows me to customize the settings on the Prius but when I had codes, it wasn't great at diagnostics and helping figure out what was the issue. Like Randy I'm looking for something for diagnostics and maintenance as I think for brake fluid there's some special stuff you have to do on these.

The 2024 xtool 8S includes the Prius Prime, 2024.
I don't know if it includes codes description.
I plugged mine into the 2024 PP I have and it did not list any DTC's. But It did itemize my vin number correctly and has many categories for those codes.
PS: I would not expect any codes, It's a new vehicle and is performing as expected.

I bought the D7 when it first came out. It was buggy, certain features didn’t work as advertised. The D7 also did not have a Bluetooth dongle. Understand that I owned the Autel scan tool that I was making a comparison. The final straw was when the D7 rebooted and came up in Chinese. This was a few years ago….I believe 2021. I bought the update subscription for the Autel after that experience.

Never to learn, I bought the D8 scan tool about a year ago. It was an improvement over the D7 for sure. The attraction of Xtool is the 3 year free updates. Honestly, I don’t recall why I decided to return the D8. I believe it was because of the new at the time Topdon Phoenix Lite 2. I sea ScannerDanners review of the first gen Phoenix Lite that convinced me to get the Topdon and return the D8. So I don’t have much user experience with the D8 other than comparing it to my Autel. Topdon gives 2 years updates and so far I have been pleased with the scan tool. FYI, I have the Topdon battery tester/charger and the Level 2 charger they sell. I have been very pleased with theirs products and support to date.

    Cheers
