It took about 15 minutes on broadband to download and install, and made an already fast computer noticeably quicker. No hiccups or issues post install. Access from IE/Tools/Windows Update/Express. Nice!

Good to hear. I have been thinking about it but may wait a few weeks. Apparently on enterprise systems they have found a problem with some inventory or point of sale system software, but other than that I have heard good things.

That's good to hear. The distrustful side of me worried that Service Pack 3 would be designed to force users to "upgrade" to Vista.

I have been running it for about a week now. I have not seen any problems. I have not seen anything good either besides not having to download 100 different patches.

If SP3 forced me to "downgrade" to vista I would have just installed Linux. There is really only one thing holding me back from installing Linux and thats my analog/digital TV capture card. Everything else I can emulate in vmware if needed.

I decided to go for it. After 2 hours a message popped up: "A device attached to the computer failed". Pressing the [OK] button and it spent about 45 minutes backing out all the changes.

Now I have to figure out "what" failed and what to do next.

UPDATE: I was so fed up I just turned it off and went to bed. Next morning I powered up and the re-install started up again. Went through the whole thing with no problems. Running fine now.

The big question for me... do i bother with the service pack, or just leave my windows environment disconnected from the internet like it is now? After all, i only boot up parallels a few times a year... :p

The techno geek publications are suggesting that everyone wait at least a month, based on problems that popped up with SP 2...

Did SP3 a few days ago - downloaded from M/S. Thus far, life is good with no problems to report.

That's for sure. Now I'm trying to decide when to upgrade to Hardy Heron. I'm running it on one of my notebook computers, but not on my main office box.

I've had good luck with 7.10, but yes, 8.04 looks even better. Are you running gnome desktop?

I've got Linspire on the laptop. But I have not used the laptop since I got the Nokia N800. The small size of the Nokia makes it harder to use, but it is so much easier to carry that it makes up for it. Both are for travel only. I should probably sell the laptop.
