XM Roady 2 Mount

I have not seen that one but I will say that the plastic on the Prius is not adhesive friendly in that stuff does not stick easly to in in my experence. I may not have used the proper adhesive but I had problems with my proclip staying in place that relied on a sticky pad on one end. FWIW

 

I just used the included adhesive mount to stick it directly to the front of the radio. (I have the single disc unit which may make a difference). Without the Roady mounted, the cradle rests just below the CD slot so that there's plenty of clearance to insert a disc and get at all of the buttons. With the Roady in its cradle the CD slot is blocked (not a problem for me since I listen to XM almost exclusively). It was easy to do and I like having it on the center stack with everything else.

Here's a pic. It looks like it blocks the hazard button and clock but it actually doesn't from my perspective (shot was taken at a slightly lower angle than my eye level.)

I had mine in the exact spot as brick until a couple of weeks ago when I replaced it with a unit that integrates with the car radio. It was there for a year; no problems with the adhesive holding. Like him, I listen to XM almost exclusively, so blocking the CD player wasn't an issue.

The only alternative I can offer is one of those mounts that lets the radio sit in one of your cup holders. You can pick that kind of thing up at one of the big retailers. I, personally, don't like that alternative because you can't see the display without looking all the way down. Obviously takes up a cup holder, too. The bonus is that you have easy access to the line-in without running the wires terribly far. (Keep in mind that you WILL need a ground loop isolator to prevent the background whine of the car's electrical system. $20 from Crutchfield). Same goes for 12V power since there is a plug in the center console, too.

That other thing is a ScanGauge, btw. Great for getting more info about engine status (RPM, coolant temp, load, etc.) I have since moved it up on top of the dash so that I can see it more easily. Not the prettiest thing in the world but it helps me answer a lot of questions.

 

I had a Roady in my '98 Outback for several years, and when I bought my Prius last week,
I naturally wanted XM. I considered the factory setup to be way too expensive,
so the choice was between another Roady and the $99 XM Direct/Terk setup from xmfan.com.

I installed the XM Direct system, and I'm glad I did. I had a really good setup for the Roady in my Subaru,
with no dangling wires, etc., but I could not see how to get a clean Roady installation in the Prius.
Having XM integrated into the existing stereo is very nice, and the very nice illustrated instructions
people have posted made the job less scary than I had feared.
