I have been looking on Craiglist for months and tired of driving and spending time to see less than what was advertised. Please send me a PM if you have a nice car that you would like to go to a good home. High mileage and needing some repairs okay.

Did you have Craig's list tuned in for DC metro/NoVA?
There's a lot of old Prii especially in North Va. in part due to grandfathered HOV access (Va.) and tax incentives (DC).

I see all those in Virginia, I just didn't want to drive that far yet but may have to. I have driven an hour to see cars in "excellent" condition and was very disapointed in what have found.

I have tried a few dealers and found their mark up to be very high. I have been using Kelley blue book to judge prices but finding that the Blue Book may be too low compared to what the Gen II actually sells for.
My present commuter car is a 2002 VW Golf TDI with 450000 miles that I bought with 320000 from the original owner. I find that if you can find one of those in good shape it sells for more than "blue book" because of the known longevity I guess. I wouldn't sell mine for twice the Kelley BB price.
I hope to find a Prius that was cared for like my Golf.

I am thinking a good dealer out your way might be Antwerpen Toyota on the DC side of B'more...they had a few positive comments here I believe

we just traded in Protege with 433K for Mitsu Mirage. 10k for brand new car with about the same MPG as Gen2 on 450mi trip from dealer. Crappy tires and way too much body roll (new shocks on order) but otherwise amazing value and with stick surprising fun to drive.

That is what I don't understand.... Why do people list their cars as excellent condition when it is not.

When you go to see the car and it is obviously not in good condition, what does the the seller expect when they are less than truthful?

I just don't understand their mentality....

I have a 2001 VW Turbo as well! 175k with original turbo! Still running strong !

I was thinking of buying an Audi A4, but because of the incentives for the Prius, I have been looking for that and I will see how it goes.

If I don't like it, I will go the Audi route!

Of course!!! Silly me! Only for plug-ins right?
Sorry I was thinking you were OP in MD.
MD gets about $500 off on a new PiP.

I'm still looking. I've done a lot of test drives in all models and I've decided to stick with buying a high mileage hopefully lower cost Gen II and save for a Prius V. I just want to find a well cared for car.

Lower cost Gen2 is going to be iffy for battery life. Would be great to find one with recently replaced new batt from Toyota. As Maryland was not CARB until 2011, you would not have CARB warranty. However, seems to me Maryland gets favorable treatment from Toyota due to being a CARB state, so if you can get one below 150k miles you might have some leverage for partial coverage if the batt dies.

We just got our annual car tax bill from Virginia, my 2006 is listed at $6275.
