Not to be the bearer of bad news or anything, but even if you managed to get a full 11.9 gallons in (i.e., no bladder) that would put you at 985 miles based on your current mileage. Extremely impressive to be getting that kind of mileage, but I think a 1000 mile tank is a pipe dream. I do hope you ultimately manage to prove me wrong though. I just had my first 500 mile tank (at 56 mpg) so I'm obviously jellous in any event.

 

How on Earth do you do that!? Can you tell a little of your driving route and trip times? I note there is no regen so you must be strictly P&G on flats? It's not so easy around where I am because of all the stopping required and impatient drivers. However I am proud to report I'm well on my way to my first 600+ mile tank (only my 3rd tank)! I got 53.9, 58.5, and now averaging 61.8mpg on this tank... I am getting the hang of it! Just wish I had the opportunity to score some 800+ tanks ...

 

Could you tell us what is the most gas you ever been able to pump in. That should give us a better idea of how feasible this endeavor is. For example, at 11 gallons even you'd obviously have to average 90.9 mpg to get 1000 miles. That means 97.8 mpg for the remaining theoretical 540 miles.

And I really do wish you good luck, even if I am tempted to press the reset button on your consumption screen though my monitor.

Wow, that alone is impressive. I've yet to get more than 9.5 gallons in. But of course my bladder is still new and not all stretched out yet. I also haven't tried pushing it beyond about 10 miles after the guess gauge starts to blink. How far have you gone with it blinking? Ever run out???

As if you need something to push your numbers even higher, have you considered an EV switch? If you haven't seen my comments on CleanMPG, I put one in Thursday evening. I delayed this mod as long as I did because I haven't seen many come out and say with certainty, "It saves me fuel." But after considering its potential application in my normal travels, I convinced myself it will save me fuel and frustration -- in particular, when the ICE refuses to shut off at speeds <34 MPH before full S4 operation. During my commute through town yesterday it was pretty cool to be able to shut off the ICE at will on city streets. FYI, I used Evan Fusco's home-grown approach described here.

Good luck to you on the 1,000-mile tank and thank you for detailing your driving habits and circumstances. I was feeling somewhat inadequate until I realized that "little or no traffic" happens here in Houston about as frequently as snow. I drive a stretch where you are considered a parked car if you are not doing at least 70 mph!

I was curious about the lack of regen. In my driving, I tend to get quite a few little cars of regen and my battery regularly hits 6 or 7 bars. When I get on a 35 mph street, I pulse to about 40, glide down to about 36 and then try to drive in stealth mode as long as my SoC is 4 or more (I call that Pulse, Glide and Stealth, PG&S). Is plain P&G better than that? It seems to me that selecting between P&G and PG&S depending on the SoC should be better than always choosing P&G? Is this wrong? Am I making the engine spend too much energy recharging my battery?

On a completely different note, can all the posters here always prefix the word "bladder" with the phrase "gas tank?" On this topic alone, I've seen phrases like "my bladder is new, not all stretched out yet" and "an incredible bladder." For whatever reason, I've had to get up and pee three times in the few minutes I spent reading these posts! Of course, we readers know what the term means in context of this discussion, but I can just see a co-worker or family member looking over your shoulder (or when you are away from your computer) and getting quite a chuckle at your expense.

I never really used to use mine but after I learned that I could activate EV mode immediately after my morning start up and not allow the ICE to come on. I now try to use this technique at each start up since I only drive a mile or so before getting on the freeway (both home and school). I'm thinking that this could add up to at least a little savings.

 

I'm really impressed I thought I was doing good with my ~500miles/tank. You guys are killing me haahaha... Well I'm still anoying a few friends with my milage and money saved. Great work!
