2008 Toyota Prius 110,000+ miles here, went to get into the car one morning and car would not start, gear selector indicator on the dash was flashing and would not change gears. Upon inspection of the engine compartment fuse box-which hasn’t had a cover on it since my wife bought it 3 years ago, I find out after taking the fuse relay box out that one of the terminals for the hybrid system was corroded. I’m cleaning the relay with baking soda and vinegar to remove the corrosion and when dry I’m gonna put a new fuse in it and see if that fixes it. What do y’all think? Was this the culprit? Codes U0293 & P1118

    Hello & welcome to PriusChat!

Can't say if the corrosion you found is the smoking gun without knowing (seeing) exactly what-where it is. I think you need to have to had 5 posts before you can upload pictures and such.

Depending on the amount of damage, "cleaning" might not be enough. You may end up having to replace some things or (if it's part of a connector), splicing around it.

U0293 is the Engine Control Module reporting that it can't talk to the Hybrid vehicle Control ecu. (P1118 is the ECM having a problem with the coolant temperature sensor circuit for the Coolant Heat Storage tank. Typically not a serious "can't drive the car" concern).

Flashing gear indicator can be a fault with the "Transmission Control Module" / system (all it does is engage & disengage the parking pawl - lock).

It is helpful to have a capable scantool that can check ALL 15-16 systems on a Gen2 Prius for fault codes. Many scanners can only check the ECM or maybe a couple others.

Specifically you want to be able to perform a "health check" and see what systems can talk. Here's a thread that reviews several scantool apps and devices for smartphone. Post 37 is a summary. (The Autel AP200 is good for general diagnostics - best bang for the buck).
