That's really bad. When I hit a curb the scratch isn't visible. It scratches the black plastic (which you can't see unless you look under the car) under the bumper. This guy hit something taller. I would make them replace the bumper.

Yeah, gonna have to get under the car to see how much damage there actually is. I believe the underside is almost all flat panel to improve aerodynamics. Demand that the underside be inspected and for you to be there before you take delivery or buy or drive off the lot. Once you do, its gonna be your word against theirs.

image.png Here is an update....they try to wipe them off but there still some minor stretch mark left..... They said they won't give me another car since the factory remote start that I order are already installed. They insist it's just dirt and they will try clean it up again next Tuesday.

Really? you people are worried about an itty bitty tiny little mark. On the bottom of the skid plate under the bumper. Whatever. It's time for me to log off and get on with my life.

If you have not signed the contract for that car, then easy walk away now and go order from another dealer.
If you have signed the contract and this is your car, then it is your car. But you are entitled to it being delivered new as you purchased a new vehicle. If they are going to do repairs or have damaged it, then they are in breach of their contract to provide you with a new car, and you can walk away or negotiate a new contract that allows for repairs or a discount so you can have it repaired (or not) elsewhere. But since the contract is breached, you can walk away.
You don't have to accept such damage on a new vehicle.

If you have the option, time, patience...
I think I'd just reject it.
It could easily be repaired, replaced and might be nothing BUT...
IMO one of the huge benefits that you are paying for when purchasing a new vehicle is starting out from point zero, more or less knowing the history of the vehicle.
Something happened to this one, at some point, and who really knows what?

But if you inspect? And they will repair, and throw in some extra's? Reduction in price?
    It's up to you.
All things being even, if I could afford to wait, and get one that isn't pre-damaged. I'd wait.

It looks like the protective wax they put on for transporting has not been cleaned off properly. I would give them a chance to clean it and if it turns out to be a chip let them repair it. It's not in a particularly visible place so could be easily covered up. Not worth the hassle of rejecting the car IMO.

If the latest picture is all that's left remaining I would be okay with it. I got two small rock chips driving home from the dealer :-p Between the staff, test drivers and natures elements it's hard to keep them pristine! But it is your money, so you're boss.

P.s. I read that the front Toyota emblem sits as low as the FR-S/86. Sporty :-D

When a dealer's employee chipped the paint on the hatch it cost the dealer another week at the paint shop and a new badge. "New" means "new". I would buy that car AFTER it returns from the shop and I can't tell the paint was chipped.

If it is an issue the dealer can discuss it with Toyota who could ask their designers and engineers to design a more durable product.

Honestly, plastic bumper covers are going to accumulate scratches, screw marks, license plate frame impressions, chips and scuffs that will be more noticeable than these chips. That's why the first trip the car makes is to get shrink wrapped.

I'd take it if I knew I would have your bad luck. But a new car is supposed to be new and scratch-free.
Yeah if it's dirt, take it. Obviously

I might try to get a few bucks discount, but in the end I would take it with smug pride that I am not sending a good piece of plastic to the landfill, where others would.

image.jpeg Here is another update, I reject the car at the end. This is because I found another stretch mark on the passenger door. When the saleswomen saw that mark she do offer either repaint the door or just reject and get another one Therefore I just reject and get the one that my wife want, which is blizzard pearl with harvest beige softex instead of with black softex.

Thanks for the update. At that point, I think I would have rejected the car also. I know I went over my car with a fine tooth comb as it was my first brand new car purchase, despite having 530 miles delivered.

Just fill and paint. No plastic parts were sent to the landfill. Chips on the door would require a serious discount. The dealer can put it in the demo/loaner/rental fleet.

Just pop by the dealer last night and that "suppose to be mine" Prius has been placed in the showroom as demo.

image.jpeg image.jpeg Another update, the replacement show up and overall is good on the outside. But why the shop floor guy took it out to get coffee and leave garbage and stain on the seat and door card!!!!!!!!

Although I know the dealer won't rat out their employee, I'd want to have a discussion with the slob. And to notify the Sales Manager that the car needs to be detailed. Are these clowns trying to get a poor score on the customer satisfaction survey?
