Why do you have to set up bluetooth every startup?

its very annoying to have to set bluetooth up every time you get back in the car. is there anyway to set it so you can just get in and go? i know you have to set it up while the car is stopped and to have to go through all the steps every time you get in the car makes me not use it unless we are on a long trip. even then having to set it up every couple of hours after a rest stop is just stupid.

i would suggest you read the instruction manual. bluetooth should automatically connect when you power on. unless you have an outdated phone or incompatable one

That's not the way it should work. You should only have to go thru the procedure once. Either the phone or the car is not working properly. The simplest test would be to borrow a phone and see if it and the car do the same thing. If so, the car is likely at fault; if not, it is likely the phone.

What kind of phone do you have? ie:Motorola / Samsung / LG ? Also what is the model number of the phone? You probably have bluetooth in the phone set to off so every time you get in the car it requires you to restart. Once it is set up you will not need to restart bluetooth every time you get in the car. Remember cellphones ar like little computers and they need to be shut off every now and then.:)

With my phone, I intentionally set it up so I need to manually turn on the bluetooth function... because it takes extra battery power and runs my phone down when I'm not using BT. Your phone probably has a setting for whether BT is always on or whether you have to manually enable it every time.

As others have said, if you want it to just always be on and auto-connect, it should be able to do that. Both your car and your phone should have come with manuals that might be able to help you solve the problem (oops, did I just say RTFM? ;) ).

It's configurable. Set it to auto-connect. You can do this with only one phone at a time, although you are free to switch back and forth between multiple phones.

it is a nokia 6102i and is compatible with the bluetooth system. i leave the phone on bluetooth but every time we turn the car off, the phone does not work. you have to turn off the conectivity and then go back and turn it back on. ill check the "auto connect" next time we get in the car and see if it works.

I have a similar problem to the original poster:

Samsung A900 Sprint cellphone and also a Motorola Q Verizon, plus a 2008 Prius with Bluetooth.

The Prius forgets the bluetooth settings to connect to the bluetooth phone. It will remember for about a minute after I shut off the car, but after that I have to reconnect every time I turn the car on. :( I don't have to put in the bluetooth passkey, so it hasn't totally forgotten.

When I touch the screen to select a phone the phone is listed right after I connect, but if I shut of the car and turn it back on there are no phones listed under the "Select a Phone" menu on the Prius touch screen.

The cell phone remembers the Prius. I left it set to the default Hand Free

Yes, I just checked, and I do have Auto Connect on (highlighted)

Yes, both phones are set to have Bluetooth on all the time.

I updated the A900 to the latest firmware release and tried that and it does not stay connected.

Once I connect they both work great, but it is a huge pain to reconnect every time I shut off the car.

I changed the default name of the Prius from Hands Free to Eds Prius and the passcode to 0000 and the Prius doesn't remember those changes either.

I have read other posts and others have used the A900 with older model Prius and they work fine.

Any other ideas I can try?

Anyone have a similar problem and resolve it somehow?

I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow and would love to have this working.

    Thanks,

    Ed.

    Update:

I never could get my Bluetooth to auto connect, so I took it into the dealer and they couldn't either. We tried several different BT cell phones and none of them would auto connect.

The dealer ordered a new computer so it took a week to get the part plus several hours to install. It works great now. It auto connects every time just the way it is supposed to. I have a new LG Muziq phone now, since I lost my A900. Also, I am able to transfer all my contacts to the Prius phonebook, which I could not do previously. That is a nifty feature if anyone hasn't tried it. It transfers all the contacts at one time from the cell phone contact phonebook to the Prius phonebook.

The Dealer said this was the first time they had this problem, so it must be rare.

Auto-Connect should work so well that you can do like me and have it in your home too. It's pretty sweet.

When I shut off the Prius, its phone system automatically disconnects, then my home wireless system automatically detects the bluetooth and activates its handsets to use the cell connection. Not having a land-line, yet still having a home phone is really nice... and an obvious money saver.

Hmmm...I'm having problems with mine too. LG VX9100, Bluetooth enabled,Autoconnect is on. I had to clear out the phone settings in the Prius and start all over. Worked great a couple of times and now today it won't connect again. I even tried to manually connect from both the car and the phone. I suppose I'll take it to Verizon and see if they can connect and then to the dealer if the problem persists.

It was the phone, Verizon couldn't get a Bluetooth ear thingy to connect to the phone so they replaced the phone...free. The new phone connected right up when I registered it to the car. Sweet!
But that brings me to a new question, because this would be the 4th LG EnV2 (VX9100) I've had in the last 9 months.
