...what does that mean for buyers? I recently bought a PIP. My main motivation was to save $200 a month on fuel. Had it not been for the $3000 discount, $3500 rebate, $2500 tax credit, and 0% for 60 months, I would not have bought the plug in model, since I'm +95% highway mileage. A friend now wants one, and he's seeing Toyota ads that declare the above incentives (except the tax credit) end tomorrow, November 5. I have read that sales for the PIP have been excellent since its introduction six months ago. Maybe that's so, but the dealer where I bought mine still has 70 PIPs on the lot. My friend doesn't know whether to jump tomorrow or sit it out a bit. With the 2013 models certainly on the way, could the 2012 deals be getting even better in the next few weeks? Anybody have info on this dilemma?

Which dealership did you buy from? 70 PiP on the lot sounds like alot.

One of the larger Toyota dealers in New England. And check that quantity. They have 73 hybrid Prius and 56 PIPs. I wonder if this is the same everywhere, and if they'll further sweeten the pie for buyers.

Not everywhere, many states have no PIPs at all.

Right. So perhaps the leftovers will be redistributed in new states, thereby eliminating our glut. The fundamental question is whether to take a good deal now or roll the dice on a better one. Rather than roll dice, the decision could be guided by info like yours, hence guided by a degree of probability.

That is why I got a PiP. I was going to buy a model 3, but with all the rebates and discounts I am happy I now have a PiP.

none of us know, i don't think even the dealers know. Dianne did mention that the deals will continue on the 2012's, but didn't mention anything about "sweetening" them. I think, personally, that the deals will continue but will not change, because while Toyota certainly wants to get these cars off the lot, they also don't want to go insanely into the red selling them. 3500 TFS rebate and 1-2k dealer discounts are not exactly big profit makers.

second place between the volt and the leaf is last place for phev's. no doubt, toyota is disappointed in sales, reflected buy the large numbers available in many places and huge discounting going on. cali is one of the few places they are doing really well and it's mostly due to hov access.

But again there are 35 states they are not selling them in, I considered having Diane ship me one from CA, but just could not buy a car sight unseen.

of course, if all 50 states were selling them, they would sell more. but they planned production for 15 states, not 50.

In October Toyota sold 1889 PIPs, it was their best sales month for the PIP

Well as I said in my original query, I wouldn't have looked at it if not for the incentive$. I have a 150 mile RT commute, 144 of them on Interstate 95. My advice to the friend was to just do it. It's a good deal now, and you can't worry about if it gets to be a better deal. The friend actually has a 14 mile RT urban commute to an office where he can plug in. Thank you.

The article I just posted seemed to indicate the numbers were good. Of course, I am one of those who bought in October --- when they threw all that cash at me.

Yeah. I figure they could sell them quickly if they want to throw them on trucks and deal them out across the country.
