Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if Toyota licenses map data from someone like Garmin?

    I wish.

I thought Garmin licensed its map data from Navteq. Toyota Nav seems to license everything from ... how should I say it ... 'cheaper outlets'.

At least in North America, the Navigation System Owner’s Manual (PDF) for a recent Prius Prime model explains, “Map database is made based on AISIN AW maps, whose information source comes from HERE maps.” You can see the HERE maps on the HERE WeGo website, but updates for Toyota vehicles are sold only by Toyota.

Navteq became HERE a couple of years ago.
