This study shows the common thread of the Jan 6th rioters: who they were; where they came from, and why:

    The single common cause:
    • Belief in the "replacement theory" - blacks, Latinos, women, and minorities are getting more rights than these middle class, whites.
Sure there are political threads but many with the same politics did not show up. It is fear from the "Great Replacement Theory" that inflamed their passions. Why respect the Constitution if you believe it is being used to leave you behind?

Replacement is not just race or minority groups, EVs are replacing ICE (and hybrids.) The new technology is driving traditional automotive owners to distraction. Wind and solar farms are shutting down the least efficient and costly coal fired power plants. We see similar symptoms of this in the BEV and AutoPilot skeptics. We see the Luddite pattern.

One should always be wary of a "single answer" or study. We are a complex species and societies. By the same token, it makes sense to understand patterns of behavior to avoid inflaming our 'honorable competition.'

On a personal note, I stopped following threads like "Elon Musk’s big lie about Tesla is finally exposed" and "Conversations at a Toyota dealership" because they have a lot of passion but little engineering appeal. Sometimes, it is best to walk away.

Capitalism has always thrived on refocusing the sense of injustice people feel from being ripped off on someone other than the ones doing the stealing. As long as the ones making all the money aren't to blame and everyone instead gets angry at a falsely perceived threat from a specific group, the methods of fleecing will continue to thrive.

About $42 trillion in new wealth was created in the first two years of the pandemic. Two-thirds of that has gone to the richest 1% of the world’s people, according to a report out Monday from the nonprofit organization Oxfam. how can we help these lower and middle class white people feel better about their circumstances?
from the personal stories i have read, many had normal jobs and backrounds, while others were already wrapped up in conspiracy theories and belonged to groups considered by many to be 'out there'

When you explain to them that the liberals they were told to hate actually want legislation and policies that will give them more money and take less money from them because the rich are finally going to have to pay their fair share; when you tell them that subsidies that make the rich richer need to be redirected as subsidies that will help them have more money they stop voting Republican...

Many Democrat organizers who have turned red states purple explain that we don't have a red state problem, we have an education and mobilization problem. It doesn't take much information to convince people that the GOP agenda isn't going to enrich them as much a Democrat agenda. Their support of the GOP is based on anti-social talking points that use emotion to hide the truth of logic and facts about who is working for them versus who is working against them.

The members are or were in a cult. Nothing gets through to see reality. Medal of Honor recipients less than Medal of Freedom because Honor ones are in bad shape from bullets or dead. Then they cheer, even though what was said makes no sense at all. Cults happen fast. This one took like one day. Real high school kids. I read in Germany the book is required reading. Not widely heard of here in USA.
