Hey guys, I have some black showing where myself or previous owner drove too close to the parking curb so just need to do a couple passes of white paint. I've seen toyota white at Autozone or I think I remember. It's not pearl white. Do you guys know if there is a white at a car parts place or would it be way off and I need to order it from Toyota? Toyota is fine if that's the case.
Paint code's on the VIN plate, in driver's door frame. Up here they (Toyota dealerships) sell touch-up "pens" that actually work pretty good, for small touch up anyway. They have a fibrous tip under a cap, that you prime with paint by pressing it a few times, either on the touch area, or my pref: the top of the cap itself. It flows pretty good; give it a stroke or two, then stop, let it settle/level without further fuss. Not perfect, but meh. BTW, for curb rash on the rims (with exception of Persona rims), Classic Silver Metallic (1F7) is a perfect match. Dupli-Color also has touch up, brush style, I've got those as well. I mostly use the Toyota pen though. The Dupli-Color touch ups have a cool abrasive pen though, good for prep.
Ok great thank you for the rim info. I found the paint code, it is pearl, Blizzard Pearl. I'll see if the local Toyota has it in stock
you’re going to need a lot of the touch up, blizzard white pearl will peel. Toyota knows in case you wonder.
Maybe. But when it does it’s wholesale, poor adherence or something. One thing I neglected to mention: the pens have colour at one end, clear coat at the other. I found the clear lifted the colour coat, even well cured. Never used it again.
Thanks guys. I'll clean the surface with alcohol or is paint thinner better to create some adherence maybe? Then after spraying on maybe hit it with a blow dryer or heat gun? Would that help it stay on?
For prep of very small areas, I like the abrasive fiber pen on dupi-color touch up pens. Knocks off any high points, feathers the edges and gives the surface a slight roughness. And very clean. I think you can buy just an abrasive tip pen too, say on Amazon.
Toyota has the pens but they don't have the spray cans. If it was Super White II which is the other white then Duplicolor has it in a can. It a big black plastic spot at the bottom of the bumper on the passenger side. Is there a white that is close to the Blizzard Pearl that I can hit it with? Just to hide the black scrape a little. Maybe I'll just try another white pearl. It's too big for a touch up pen. It's not a big deal even if I leave it but would be nice to do. Bumper by Jeffrimerman posted Mar 20, 2018 at 2:47 PM
An auto paint shop could match it for you, or at least get close. And mix up a pint or quart size for you. You can get air sprayers to spray it on.
Thanks guys. If the lid is somewhat close I bet between all the different japanese car paints at autozone there is probably a close one. Like Bisco said I bet a close white way down there will be fine. I have some house paint =P
Looks like you have exactly same problem as mine with same color.First of all if you have a crack then you need to follow this YouTube video here. Now that color code is 070 pearl blizzard white that has base coat and top coat.It can also be DIY with adding pearl powder to white color. So there are few cans spray 13 oz on eBay with prime , base ,main color and clear 2k coating. You can also buy the pen for 14 bucks on Toyota dealer but it's way too small in quantity. I went with duplicolor Toyota pearl white which is the cheapest in 12oz can ($11) from O Riley. It isn't 100 % match but with buffing and wet sanding it's not noticeable.
Awesome, I'll go with the Toyota pearl white. It's just the bottom edge so should look way better. Thanks saltdiscus. I was having a hard time logging in but a moderator gave me a link that worked. In case anyone here is having a problem. Hopefully you don't need to be logged in for the link to work =/ Log in | PriusChat
