Which Other Toyota Front Seats Can Bolt Into Gen II Prius?

The only thing I am aware of is that some people bought replacement extended rails for Gen2 which allow a little further movement back. Gen2 has legendary space in 2nd row for passengers, in part because the front seat does travel back very far. Seat comfort is a common complaint...I know what you mean. Gotta be tons of past threads here.

 

someone just put in a volvo seat, but fab may have been involved, i don't remember.

 

I haven't seen any swap that didn't require fabbed/purchased seat brackets or welding on different seats to the NHW20 seat bracket.

 

I would investigate to see if a Camry seat might work. It may take some clever crafting to get it to mount properly.

 

gonna need some fabrication and possibly welding skills to install any seat other than oem. sad but true.

 

Unless you buy an aftermarket seat and a separate bracket, you are going to have to do some fabbing.

 

im not convinced that it cant be done...car manufactures re-use the same seat, rails etc. for various models of cars...its cheaper for them...yes the seat are uncomfy !

 

Hi Easysmile, I'm having really bad problems with my back due to commuting long distances in my 2005 Prius. I have to replace the front seat to save my back. I'm curious, were you ever able to find a replacement drivers seat for your Prius?

Trying to add a used seat from a different Toyota is very probably more trouble than it's worth.

How much is this worth to you, though? The quickest/easiest way to get a better seat is to buy a Recaro (Own something special - Overview aftermarket - RECARO Automotive) and mounting hardware from a Recaro dealer who will do the installation for you.

A possibly cheaper alternative is to find an auto upholsterer in your area who will custom-modify your seat for you.

I love the gen 2 Prii but the seats were killing me. I have an hour commute, so even just getting to work and back is a lot of time in the car.

I've had three gen 2 so far, long story, but the second one I modified myself, and I have zero experience altering cars in any way, though I'm mechanically minded. All I did was go on craigslist to find someone parting out a touring model with leather seats and bought his, took mine out and bolted the new ones in. You do have to pay attention when you're taking loose and re-making the airbag connections and DISCONNECT THE BATTERY before doing so, you do not want them to deploy while you're working, but it was a dry day in winter and it didn't take much more than an hour, not knowing anything. It was the best move I ever made, immediate improvement, my hip no longer ached at the end of a drive.

It may not be practical everywhere to find a recent wreck, but his airbags had not deployed. Part of the untold long story of the three Prii alluded to above is that maybe a few months after the seat swap, I was hit by a teenage driver coming at me sideways, right on the passenger front wheel. I was rocked up hard and back down, and NONE of the airbags deployed, side impact or otherwise, which is maybe weird? but since none of them deployed, not just the ones I'd connected and disconnected, maybe the angle of impact just didn't trigger them. I wasn't hurt, just a seatbelt and steering wheel bruise from being knocked around, and the seats were solid, right where I bolted them. But I guess I'd just say, pay attention to what you're doing when you make the airbag connections, since a loose one could maybe trigger deployment unexpectedly after you re-connect the battery. And did I mention you should ****DISCONNECT THE BATTERY***** before attempting this swap? Because you should definitely DISCONNECT THE BATTERY as the first step. Otherwise it's just four bolts, piece o' cake and instant comfort.

 

a lose connection wouldn't trigger the air bag. It just would set off a light in the dash and disable the system.
you should still disconnect the batteries though i would think just to be safe.

 

So the optional leather seats are more comfortable than the cloth?
