I am coming up on my 5 K service next week or the week after. So I call the local Toyota dealer to make an appointment. I talk to a "service manager" he said I did not need a appointment all I had to do is come by any time Monday through Saturday (open only for oil change on Saturday no regular service so I take that to mean the Prius tech will not be there) as it was just a oil change. I told him I thought there was a tire rotation as well and he said no 5 K tire rotation was just for the 03 and earlier that 04 had tire rotation at 10 K interval. I checked my book and it says tire rotation every 5 K. I am now afraid to go there. I have a independent auto repair shop that I go to because every over the top car nut in town takes their cars there. He has been fair, knowelegable, and runs a great shop. He is willing to to routine stuff on my Prius and will be taking courses to repair hybrids as soon as he can get them. He is anxious to move into this new technology and stay up to date. I have a lot of trust in him. So what would you do? What do people think. I am also have been thinking of asking him to install a costal tech EV mod. Don't know if he will as I have not asked.

I would probably take it to this person that you trust. I would make sure he is up to date on the simple stuff. Make sure he knows not to over fill the oil ect.

A little follow up. It is done. I took the car to the local independent and had the work done and everything went well. Oil level tire pressure to my specs. I am going to synthetic oil next time the argument of decreasing the oil dependence pushed me over. I may ask about the costal Tech EV mod have not decided on that one.

i rotate my own tires but do it every 3000 miles as that is the recommended interval i had learned.

could be old ways maybe as that is what ive known for years...

i went to the dealer in question that Henry was refering to. i have to admit that i didnt ask as many questions other than that the tech told me that all the techs at the shop were certified on all cars for basic maintainence.

he did get the oil right... but did deflate the tires back to the recommended levels stating that he couldnt leave them the way they were because it was against company and dealership policy to do so.
