We have a new Prius Model Two, basic. Where do people put their trash bag in their car? This may seem to be a real silly post, but we can't figure out a good place. I tried searching but didn't seem to find any posts on this. Thanks! Newbie of one month.

Door pocket(s). Since it's hard to reach across the flying-buttress center console anyways.

you don't. How about just taking the trash out every time you step out of the vehicle?

It went in the passenger footwell but now it won't need one because the Prius is just my commuter.

    (1) It is nice to have a place to put messy items until we step out of the vehicle.
    (2) Not every place where we step out of the vehicle has a legal place to deposit trash without littering, so the trash is retained until a convenient legal place is available. We are not litterbugs.
    (3) Some states require a trash bag in the car.

In my household's cars, trash bags simply sit on any convenient section of floor that doesn't interfere with anyone's feet, and are moved around as needed.

I've got a black nylon trashbag that has a strap with a clip that hangs on the back of a front seat - strap goes around the head rest posts. It works great - I put it on the front passenger seat and I can easily reach it from the driver's seat.

Looks like Washington (where you live) was the only one and that law was repealed in 2003.

I use this weighted square trash container on floor behind passenger seat. Works well (especially because this is my wife's commuter car and she is, well, lets just say, not neat...in case she reads this  ) :)

No question is silly on PriusChat; Welcome: :)

On the right side of steering column, place a plastic trash bag on the windshield wiper lever.

I'm wondering how people create so much trash inside the car? I do have one rule - no eating inside my car. I think that eliminates most trash problems right there. My reason for the rule is to not have odors from food accumulate over time and avoid funky smells that some people have their vehicles. My stepmom has a 2009 model year car, bought new, with just over 10,000 miles on it now. You think it would drive and smell like new - NOT!

I use this one on the passenger side of the lower storage tray, was driving on a narrow two lane road yesterday no place to pull over, and the wife got sick and vomited, works for that also.

Most adults can eat or snack inside a car without contributing to a smelly mess. But as you have found, not all of them can do this.

I impose no such rule in my cars, but don't let smelly garbage sack contents fester. Even after two decades, none of the cars in this household have funky smells that we can detect. Neither of us is a genetic super-smeller or super-taster.

Yes, some people have bad smelling cars. In a group of outdoor enthusiasts that sometimes runs multiple carpools, one passenger switched to my car in part because another driver's car suffered those funky old food odors. (There were other ride-ability issues too.) This year, that driver had a new car and imposed a no-eating rule to control that odor buildup. So yet another passenger switched to my car in order to eat breakfast during ride, and kept it plenty clean.

A garbage sack is also necessary for the passengers who use significant quantities of facial tissue.

I use one like this, narrow elastic round opening at the top and velcro at the bottom of bag to dump it out . Just lift up the center console and put the strap around it and let it hang in the back. Great position for all to reach and drop in their junk! You can find them on ebay or your local auto shops.

Well, you'll need to give up some storage but use the little center armrest compartment. Just line it with a disposable plastic bag or find a plastic food container that is the right size. The trade off isn't so bad because you don't need to look at the trash; it's hidden away so your interior still looks nice.

I have a double grocery paper bag (from Trader Joes) standing on the floor between front passenger seat and back seat. I throw stuff in it, and replace as needed.

I agree most adults SHOULD be able to eat in the car without making a mess, but in reality they don't. When I ride in other cars, there is always a smell. I've had people comment that my previous cars smell and look new when they first ride with me, only to be told it's two years old.

Another thing I don't allow is any deodorizers at car washes or use fake scented auto fresheners as they tend to make the car reek over time.

Had same problem altho we use our bag for snack food during long drives. So I built a 4-sided container of 3/16 plywood mounted on a 1-inch thick section of cedar on the bottom (scraps I had lying around). The box mounts on the center floor section of the rear seat well ; the sides JUST fit on either side of the center console so that it will not fall over in hard cornering. The tight fit can be seen in the first picture , and this is also important so that the front seats can still be adjusted fore and aft without hitting the box :
    image.jpg
The forward panel,of the box must be trimmed down in a semicircle so that it will fit just inside the rear of the console that projects backwards. That can be seen in the second picture:

For your purpose, you would substitute a trash bag for the World Wildlife Foundation bag we use for our food, which is endorsed by grizzly and polar bears everywhere!
