Where do "Wall Street estimates" come from?

    Sorry, but this is one of the more obscure to source claims. I've Googled about and all I'm getting are:
    • Wall Street Journal
    • "analysts"
    I would have more confidence about 'Wall Street estimates' if they were published BEFORE the actual numbers come out from the company. I'm seeing them used AFTER the company reports which questions whether these are objective estimates and from whom.
