I found out that the Prius with a #1 pkg. is not available in the 2008 run. I was told by the internet sales person today that in order to have cruise control I would have to buy a Prius that comes with a pkg. 2. It has quite a few extras that my 2006 doesn't.

The price I was quoted with no trade in was $23,800 minus my Sam's Club discount of $300. Total: $23,500 + tax, title, and state BS disposal fee of $18.50. Is this really a good price? I can't imagine who would buy a 50 MPG car without cruise control. That "New" cheap a-s model is pretty worthless. She called it the "Base" prius. I thought all Prius's came with cruise control.

Is this a good price to pay for an '08? Is this the best I can do on an '08 without buying a stripped down box with 4 wheels?

    Thanks all.

Here in sthe Silicon Valley where there are plenty of new cars (Prius) in dealer inventory, an 08 pkg 2 (HG) is typically quoted at about $ 22,000

Walker1 does that 2008 come with floor mats its hard to get one without them.I know dealer price is 21,225 if you add floor mats it bumps it up to 21,351, but they have to make something on the car so if it where me I would offer 22,000+Tax and title. Tell them you really dont care if you get one or not that you already have one and if the price is not right you will just wait on the new ones to come out they will lower there price trust me..They will prob. come back with something like $23,000 is lowest they can go then tell them to meet you in the middle and settle on $22,500 which I think is a pretty fair price... :)

My father just bought one from Toyota of El Cajon (San Diego, CA) for $21,009. We emailed a bunch of dealers within 500 miles and several dealers were offering package 2 for between $22,200 and $22,600, so we got a great deal.

In Alabama I was quoted $23,118 as dealer invoice for a 2008 package 2 with floor mats, mud flaps, and Toyota Plus Protection. My deal was 3% over that plus $150 for documents and fees. This might be a little more than has been quoted for California, but I was pleased.

I am in West Palm Beach. I read that the stripped down Prius does not have cruise & the dlr. told me that also.

No, The lower down model, pkg. 2 doesn't come with the mats. Strange, but it does come with cruise, xtra air bags, smart key, VSC, Tonough Cover, and camera for the rear. The price I got was fixed for Sam's Club members. I asked about a lesser price & got a flat "No."

Also, we bought our '06 Prius new from this dlr. and we also bought a used Camry in 2001 from them- and she knows it. She found us in her PC in 2 minutes. My biggest problem is how to sell my Honda Accord without getting hurt again like the last 2 times I traded cars in. And, it was @ this dlr.!

The sales girl told me they could sell Prius's at full price as they sell themselves. She claims the dlr. makes $1100 markup on this pkg. 2 car. They did scalp us on both trade in cars. I have a really nice 2003 Accord with only 38,000 miles and I'm being told I'll be lucky to get $13,800 for it from a private sale. The dlr. offered us $12,000 in trade. I'm afraid the $2,000 loss is too much for our budget as we're not wealthy.

We brought the Honda to Carmax- They highly insulted us with their low ball offer.

The one thing I don't have patience with is people who call up and the 1st words out of their mouths before they know anything about the car I'm selling is: "How much less will you take"?. The other thing is CHEAPSKATES! I have always been fair when selling cars, etc., but I can't stand CHEAPSKATES that only look for something for nothing. One time after dealing with a low ball insultive offer I showed the rube to the front door & slammed it as he went outside.

Southeast Toyota sells to over 160 dealers in the Southeast and represents 20% of Toyota's business. They dictate what options will be available on the Toyota's sold in our area. The states in this region are Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and I think the Carolina's. Anyway they decided that package 1 would not be available in our region. That's why you cannot get a package 1 in FL. That's also why you cannot buy a Toyota in our region without Toyo Guard which is a $600+ option. They also tack on other fee's. Toyota does not like the control they have and tried to buy them out a while back and offered them billions. Needless to say they turned it down. That is also why Toyota's in our area cost more than out west. :(

I wonder if that's why everyone wants your zip code for buying or selling cars. I mean, why should a Prius sell for more here than say in CT?

Well, I didn't exactly get a super deal on our pkg 2 Prius last month here in Houston. I was out in the SF Bay Area last week visiting family, and I was curious: If I hadn't been so impatient, could I have bought a Prius for cheap in California, and paid the dealer extra to ship it to Texas? Even if the shipping cost a lot of Franklins, it seems I still could have 4 figures in $$$... sigh. Oh well, I don't think I would have enjoyed shopping for cars on my vacation anyway (put buying cars right up there with root canals!).

Perhaps because Florida is alot farther then say... California when shipping from Japan.

Forcing people in the South East region to purchase things like Toyo Guard for over $600 or not allowing package 1 to be sold has nothing to do with shipping fees.

I just bought a 2008 Touring Package 6 from Concord Toyota for 25400. + Lic and Taxes. I thought that was a pretty sweet deal. I also hear a lot of the dollar falling and the MSRP on these cars going up. Which is true, i visited several dealerships and based on the shipment the prius came in the prices varied by almost 500 dollars. (Same Package). I suggest check edmunds.com and offer the dealer the invoice price.

Back in December I paid $23,311 OTD which included (thrown in by the dealership) the rubber floor-mats and an EBH installed. I thought at the time that it was a pretty good price, but have heard some recent stories which, if true, make me wonder if I shouldn't have dickered a bit harder. I am sometimes skeptical of such tales, kind of like whopper fish stories, but maybe. I just don't think that Toyota dealerships have a lot of backlog/inventory of these things, nor do they have a great deal of difficulty selling them, so they are sure as hell not going to let them go for less than their cost, not in your wildest dreams. Why would they? I'd say that if you can get a #2 for less than $23K, you're doing very well.

PS: We don't have sales tax here, so no extra charge for that. Plates ran me $250 for the first year, and will go down gradually as the car ages.

Basically it gets down to the law of supply and demand. Here in the Silicon Valley, the demand for the Prius is rather high, however there are quite a few Toyota dealers here and all of them seem to have at least 20 Prius automobiles in inventory. There is also a lot of competition from the used Prius market in this region. So for the prospective buyer, there is a lot to choose from - with a typical price of just over $ 22,000 for a new package 2 (HG).

This is the price I paid for my 2008 2 weeks ago in Dallas. The only extra was the extra mile pkg b4 --- carpeted floormats, the bumper sticker thing and window tinting.
