What's the best way to get inline for ordering now that preorder is over?

Hey, I bet there will be a couple of them on the lots. I don't think these PIP will be so hot. 35k or so after tax is pretty steep. The dealership at my place still has the so call "Volt." They said that this thing would be a big hit--nothing but hype.

 

Find a high volume dealership in one of the launch markets and try to get on a waiting list. Some people will show up to pick up their pre-orders and not close the deal because of unacceptable trade in offers or other failures of financing.

 

go to bernardi toyota in framingham, ma. give them a $2500. non refundable deposit. as soon as they get one, it's yours!

I don't believe that the Green Stickers will be a huge game changer as the yellow stickers were. When the yellow stickers were out, once they ran out, the only alternative was the white sticker, which pretty much meant you had to get the Honda CNG. With the Green stickers, if they possibly sell that many Prius plug ins and Volts, you just go and buy the Leaf, the upcoming Mitusbishi, or Focus electric and the whole slew of electric cars coming out and get a white sticker.

Please verify if I'm doing this right. There are 40,000 Green stickers available. Toyota has said the first run for the whole US will be 15,000 for the PIP. GM has not sold more than 10,000 Volts in the whole US. The Green stickers are supposed to be good only for 3 years unless they keep extending it like the Yellow but for now it's 3 years and people seem to be more against the extension. It seems like the chances of them running out of the Green stickers is pretty low. Even in CA, people who qualified for the Yellow but who didn't need it, didn't bother getting them.

 

I ordered around Dec 7 and my number was 3686 or something close to that. Half are in California, so I wouldn't worry about getting the green sticker. I think there will people who drop off the list. Send a note to Diane here. She sold a billion of them and probably will have a few not buyers.

 

I would never give a dealer a non-refundable deposit with no guaranteed delivery date. In fact, I'd never give a non-refundable deposit, period. But that's just me.

The Volt won't be eligible for the Green stickers until some time in February so there won't have been any issued so far this year. Having said that who knows how many volts will sell once they become eligible.

Later this year we will see the Fusion energi and the CMAX energi plug-in hybrids going on sale and there may be others coming out soon. However, I very much doubt that Chevy can sell 40,000 volts before the preordered PIPs arrive between March and June.

 

Well, the green stickers are only for CA, not the rest of the country, it's 1 state out of 50 that they are going to sell these cars in. People who are truely desparate for the carpool stickers, already bought a Leaf. Considering the current production capacity of these cars and the fact that these cars are meant for the whole country not just CA, the chances of them running out anytime soon, look slim. Even if they did and you still needed the carpool sticker, you just buy one of the all-electric cars coming out or the Leaf.

There's a lot of hype on this site about the stickers and needing to buy quickly to obtain one, just like the hype surrounding the pre-orders for the PIP but the numbers so far seem like the green stickers will be available for quite some time, I would say at least until 2013 if not another 2 years.

I don't expect there to be problem with stickers in the few two years at all.

There were 40,000 initial stickers decided on, and right now, there's not a car in production qualified to have them on its bumper. That will change January 30th, then production for Feb 2012 starts on the PHEV. But there are only 15,000 units being built for the entire country and that's spread thin, yet many more sold in CA by ratio. That still will only account for MAYBE 10%-20% of the stickers in CA in the first year. Even if Chevy gets its act together and gets the 2012 VOLT accepted with its new method of gulping clean air into the still too-dirty emissions and calling the tailpipe blend suitable for carpool use (don't get me started!) then they still won't have enough cars to even use up another 10% of the green stickers.

i know it's hard to believe, but i was serious. that's their policy. i had to prove to them that the pip was a special deal and even so, i think getting my $500. back would be like pulling teeth. and, they wouldn't discount the car like p/c certified dealers.

i should check in mass, their contract stated it in b&w! we had to cross it out when i proved to them the special deal we were working with toyota. i'm sure when my pip comes in, they won't even remember who i am. probably threw my paperwork away the moment i was out the door.

 

The problem most people have with the leaf it the limited range for the LA market- it is nothing to drive 125 miles per day (luckily most do not do it) but a Leaf could not get home.

There is a pent up demand for carpool stickers for cars that
DO NOT LIMIT your RANGE, so whichever comes out first and has the most reliable car (think TOYOTA vs Chevy), will sell the most of the green stickered carpool cars.

Last article I posted yesterday about the Volt stated at least March before delivery (see Prius News forum) from the WSJ article.
Also the WSJ article claimed that the sticker would be worth 4-5,000 to the value of the vehicle (their quote not mine).

There are about 6000 leafs in california. I would expect the number to more than double this year. That still leaves plenty of HOV stickers for 2012. In 2013, I hope they run out, don't you. Otherwise that program is not working. By then Ford will have 3 cars in the game, toyota the phv and RAV 4 ev, tesla S, volt, leaf, etc. I agree the phv appeals more than the leaf to the LA market, but the leaf does have a big head start.
