My grandfather Jim was Slim his whole life.
My uncle Jim was Jimmy his whole life.
My father Jim goes by J. J.
I am Jimbo, still at 57. Both in College and in my first job there were so many Jims near me, it was better to be unique. (In all of Facebook there are only two Jimbo Palmers, me and someone in London)

In a similar fashion, one brother goes by Jonell, his actual name is John L Palmer but there are many less Jonell's in the world.
My title "Tsar of all the Russers" is from the masthead of Cycle magazine, Gordon Jennings had a different title each month.

 

Rude person's comes with 500Mhz.

Back in the days, when I was in the PC business, the standard processor was 133Mhz, at best. That was in 1993.

 

I, too, used to have an S2000. I miss it - but at least now my dermatologist will stop beating me.
As for my name... I refer you to Deathworld.

 

People on long island used to tell each other where they live by LIE(long island expressway) exit numbers. I actually live closer to the grand central parkway exit 12, so GCP Exit12.

 

IT's boring but here it is: Munpot42/Muncie(where I was born)Potter (my last name) 42 (year when I was born). At my advanced age at least I can remember it.

anyway - I typically use whatever comes to mind - and on the day mudman or mudmanrv came about -
I was thinking of names of a business should I start one - and since I like to ride atv's (the mud part) and I used to design floorplans for those million dollar coaches -- (the rv) part ... my business daydream was that I would be a ATV/Camper dealer ... and the store front would be called "MudmanRV" ....

Being somewhat of a computer geek that I am - my computers throughout the house are named after various star trek vessels -- i.e. Enterprise-B Enterprise-C ,etc. it's usually just whatever hits me at the moment a name is requested.

 

My screenname is the same name I go by in my everyday life, a nickname I've had since grade school. How did I get that nickname? No story to tell, just the standard nickname formula: Take the first syllable of your last name and add a "y"

 

My screen name comes from my first name, and the answer to life, the universe, and everything!

You came in late! Those Pentium 133's running Windows 95 (with Plug & Pray) were pretty amazing. I remember the 8088 & 8086 chips (8MHz).

Sometimes a screen name is just a name but a few call me "Jimbo" or "JimBob". Whatever, as long as they don't call me late for dinner. (Hey, what happened to the drum smiley?)

 

My son bristles up like a hedgehog every time his dad (me) tries to give advice... hence "DadofHedgehog".

F8L is just license plate speak for FATAL. In the early 90s I started racing Mustangs (1987-1990) and my first personalized plate was F8LPONY. Later is became my screen name when Internet forums started popping up. It changed to F8L454, F8L TA, F8LZ71, F8L C5 and at some point F8LFoo for some crazy roadway brawl I got into. After selling those cars and buying the Prius I dropped everything but the F8L part since most people knew me as F8L something on the other car forums. Lame but that's my story.

 

In college, I was andrewc on two different sets of servers (run by different departments). I was assigned andrewc by one department. In the other set of servers, I could pick the handle Iwanted.

Unfortunately, andrewc is now usually taken everywhere so I decided to reverse it: cwerdna. That's usually not taken.

I got the idea from following: In the game Wizardry, there was a monster on the lowest level called Werdna. One of the programmer's names was Andrew, so I guess that's where Werdna came from. At my former work, when I was an intern, there was a server named tom smadamot, which really confused me. It turned out to be Tom Adams spelled backwards.

There was another guy who I never met named Andrew Tong at Caltech. He had these great TNG pages (Star Trek: The Next Generation, but were hosted elsewhere before). He also went by werdna.

 

Just word play on a watch brand I fancy.

I play the resonator guitar in several bluegrass bands. It's commonly called a dobro. Well, one day after playing on stage at a bluegrass festival, this drunk guy comes flying at me. I figured he was going to take a swing at me, so I had my steel in my hand getting ready to counter. All of a sudden he stops, sticks his hand out to shake and yells "El Dobro Supremo". Naturally, my friends had to be there, so they started laughing their asses off and started caling me El Dobro. The rest is history.

 

Mine is (almost) simply my military title.
I'm afraid it's not very imaginative.

(rate) ET=Electronics Technician (twidget as an almost affectionate nickname) Rating is similar to MOS, or military occupation specialty (we call them NECs) only contrary to the former, you only can only have one rating at a time.
(rank) C= CPO, Navy Chief, or E-7. Actually you should never refer to a Chief (or probably a Gunny as well) as an E7. All you have to do to make E7 is to take a test and pass a board.

Parenthetical letters after Rate and Rank are warfare designators. You can have a bunch these days, because they hand them out with your welcome aboard package. They used to be much rarer, and you would almost never see more than two----and then not all that often.
They're supposed to be the culmination of a year to a year and a half's full time effort. Naturally....I'm somewhat proud of the SS designator. If you fail to qualify within a certain time frame, they boot you out into the skimmer fleet, or make you an airdale, or a Seabee.
In 31+ years, I've never seen anybody kicked out of one of these communities into the submarine service.
Nuff said.

Since, contrary to regulation, I use SS as my primary warfare designator. All of my 782 gear, inbox, parking spot, coffee mug, everything used to simply say ETC(SS). We had, on and off, several twidget CPOs. I was the only bubblehead.
It's like being a Marine...only a lot more or a lot less intelligent, depending on how you feel about submarines. I haven't knocked holes in the ocean for quite a while now, but I'll always be a submariner.
They used to twist my tail about it a little bit, but it takes somebody fairly high up in the food chain to bust a Chief down to E6, so I just didn't give a crap. Still don't.
