Check into the Prius specific open source solutions:
Both are inexpensive (if you already have the required SmartPhone/tablet/netbook) very flexible and display more simultaneous info than the ScanGauge (which I own).

I have both a ScanGauge and Ultra-Gauge. I like ScanGauge simplicity but mine is an older version. The Ultra-Gauge will not show SOC like I thought it would. However, Ultra-Gauge is only about 70 bux. For that price, I like it.

There's also the outdated DashDaq, which is a good one to keep an eye out for used because it's ridiculously priced new.

Soon as I get a tablet I'm gonna start out with the Torque app, but I've a hunch that ScanGauge and Ultra Gauge and other systems might cover more than the Torque app will?

Has anyone compared each of the options with each other yet?

I'd love to know which system does stuff that other systems won't do?

The real issue here is we need Toyota to open-source Prius source code!!!

The developer community would thrive if they did this... This whole proprietary code trip is outdated, greedy and stifles innovation.

Think if you could replace your car's firmware with priuschat-developed firmware that gave you full control of the settings that are controlled by all the car's sensors? Think if you could have different modes for a dozen different types of driving conditions... The MPGs would go thru the roof if you did this! It'd also make the Prius the most legendary car ever made. Of course Toyota would never do this... Maybe if we sent them a petition? :)

Open Source code for an Auto would be a wonderful thing, for the lawyers! Who would take the blame when a bug causes death and destruction?

Yea... It's easy to say that someone is gonna get hurt or killed if we don't have auto computer code locked down... But it's not like buggy Microsoft is in charge of our car's computer code yet... :)

And reality is that you can create code parameters that you can work within without destroying yourself or the car...

Of course all the racing kids who tweak the code of their Honda burn up their engines all the time and it's always their own dumb fault and no one else's...

Another way to explain it is that when cruise control first came out everyone was terrified at how dangerous it could potentially be, yet it had way too many safety redundancies built in to kill anyone.

Likewise the new systems like radar cruise control and lane correction systems are safe and step by step slowly leading us towards the self-driving car, which, if Google wins, will be more open-source than car makers want and if Google cars evolve the way Android evolves, car makers will move their OS to Android...

Heck even camera maker Cannon is switching over to Android for an OS in next year's cameras.
