What is your best MPG so far this spring

Here's a shot from my MFD after a Sunday drive this past weekend:



This tank will be my best ever MPG-wise, and possibly miles-wise too.

 

I'm at 68.4 MPG after 220 miles. If the weather holds I'm hoping to hit 70 MPG before those guys in Virginia.

Bought a 2007 std in Feb 07: averaged 51.5 for 1st 1K. Then accidentally reset the mpg and got this for the next 40 miles:

A mostly local trip on roads at 30-45mph.
Combined with several hundred more miles, mostly on the highway, we are now getting 57.3mpg.
We pulse and glide and anticipate, we always try to be aware of the flow of traffic, we usually drive at posted speed limits and our tires are at 37fr/35rr.

Well, I've got 64.1 MPG for my tank so far and it's got over 250 miles on it. This will be my best ever regardless of what my actual MPG will be as I've never been over 60 MPG on my car for more than 20-30 miles.

BTW, this is on a Classic Prius, so I feel like this is one hell of an accomplishment considering I live in a pretty hilly area.

 

I am at 59.3 mpg at 199 miles, temperature mean 39 F high 49 low 24. Might be able to get it to 60 mpg on the display, but the calculated mpg is usually about 2 % lower long term, the bladder makes consistent calculated mpg difficult as the bladder expands more at warmer temperatures.

You asked for the best, but I'm going to give both worst and best. I've driven about 1200 miles since (and including last Friday the 25th). From Cheney to Olympia, WA (~ 325 miles, I don't have my records in hand), I got about 48 mpg. This involves an elevation drop of 2500 ft, but was as close to 75 mph as I could do, since I was in a hurry.

From Olympia to Portland, OR is the worst I've ever seen with highway driving. I tried to keep the speed about 65 mph and barely got 40 mpg. I haven't decided whether it was bad gas (it was from a Circle K right next to our motel), wet roads (it was raining, but not really a heavy downpour), or something else. It was in the morning and cooler (40-50 F), but even in 30F weather, I'd never got less than 45 mpg on highway driving of that speed before. If it was windly, I couldn't tell.

By the time I got to Grants Pass, OR, it had finally crept up to 45 mpg. The rain did stop south of Portland, and it was then daylight.

From Grants Pass to Sacramento, the mileage was a little over 50 mpg, but at Redding (still within the mountains) it was about 52.5 mpg. This involved mountain driving and speeds maintained at 65 mph.
My wife took over driving at Redding, and she doesn't worry about braking slowly.

Around here, I'm only getting between 50 and 51 accumulative for total miles since Sacramento about 350 miles. Most trips around here have been between 1 and 5 miles at a time.

Anyway. I hope I can do better on the way home.

Our last fill up was March 7th. We've got 377 miles @ 55.7 mpg on this tank. Definitely our best tank! Our lifetime mpg is 48.5, so this is a nice increase for us.

 

The verdict for this tank is in: 65.2 MPG and 632 miles. Personal bests in both. The MPG was 4 better than my previous best.

I can't wait for the weather to warm some more. Wayne, I see that 70 MPG tank in my near future!

 

I just wish someone would turn the heat back on in Chicago, I'm having a hard time holding a 68MPG.

You know, I was really proud of myself for finally breaking the 40MPG barrier (41.6 as of this morning, 4 bars left on the gas gauge). Then I read this thread. :blink:

I had a 20 minute drive, including warmup, a few days ago at ~78 mpg, but overall my current tank is at 43.3 mpg. I'm going to do my best to improve that a few points at least today as I have some highway driving to do. I'm really looking forward to getting back up to the 50's.

In other news, my Camry is sitting pretty at about 20mpg for the last tank and 296 miles... sheesh, no wonder that thing sits in the driveway most of the time!

Anywho ... my best for the 1st week of Spring is a meer 55.2mpg but i'm thinking that might be due to the new Michelin HydroEdges.

 

Just bought my 2007 option 2 Saturday. Have put 240 miles on it, averaging 52.7 mpg without really knowing what I'm doing. Mostly stop-and-go hilly driving, probably watching the MFD too much to drive safely! Have tried the gliding technique, but don't ever get a chance to do it for any length of road. Seems like its just like putting transmission in N. Anyone know what difference altitude makes on mpg? I live in Albuquerque, about a mile high. Less oxygen for engine, but probably less wind resistance too, don't know which has more effect on mpg. What an incredible car! I feel like there is a symbiosis between the Prius' brain and my own.
