Since I have owned this car (04 Prius) little over three years now I have been mystified by this noise, can't be the water pump or the hybrid/cvt cooling pump because we'll the water pump only runs when the engine is on and the hybrid cooling pump well runs all the time. This runs like 95% of the time changes speed etc. I just want to know what it is cause it is almost omnipresent in my life I'm in my car alot lol terramir
Recorded with really low level ... had to wear headphones and really crank it to hear anything. Here's a version with level normalized. Sounds like a small washing machine agitating, about 3/4 second period. Stumps me! I would not guess a pump, rather an actuator for something, trying to reach a position, repeatedly. The HVAC damper actuators don't sound quite like that, at least as I remember them. Can you localize the sound at all? -Chap
This is the sound from a bad 3 way coolant valve. You'll hear it much louder when you pop open the hood.
Holy crap I have been hearing this sound for the last three years but I have been only getting the coolant valve code for about two months. I bought a new one on fleabay just have not had the time to install it yet. Well that solves the mystery sound it seems will report back when I get the new 3-way valve installed. terramir Chap thanks for the enhanced audio my Samsung note three could not record it any better from inside the car.
