I am thinking of taking prius engine out and put it on another car.
    Question:
    1. What is the weight of prius engine?
    2. What is the weight of transmission?

    3. What is the weight of total drive train?

Hopefully someone can chime in with exact numbers...but for now:

I’d say the head valves and cover weigh around 75-100 lbs from when I was moving it around the garage (maybe I’m just weak and it’s closer to 50).

I tried lifting the entire engine by myself and it was too heavy, Errr I mean awkward, but two guys easily can lift it, so maybe in the 250-300 lb range.

My come-along and garage rafters didn’t seem to mind the weight in any capacity so i highly doubt it got to the 400-500lb range.

Gen 2 is a different engine and trans (1NZ engine and P112 trans), but I have a Gen 2 New Car Features manual right at hand, which might give you a sort of ballpark. It says the Gen 2 1NZ engine is 86.1 kg (including oil and coolant) and the P112 tranny is 107 kg (again including fluid).

Crack open a Gen 3 New Car Features manual and you'll have the corresponding numbers for your 2ZR engine and P410 tranny, and nobody will have to guess.

well, two google sources make me a weakling. They have a dry engine weight at 97 kg (214 lbs) for the 2zr. I'll give myself the benefit of the doubt and say there was a few extra pounds of oil still in it when I tried to lift it ;) I couldn't find the P410 figures.

Thanks to Elektroingenieur, there's a helpful wiki page on the Toyota service information and where to find it.

    I'm curious.

Would a Prius engine operate properly in another vehicle? It seems to be missing quite a bit of things an engine in a non-hybrid car normally has.

Things that immediately come to mind would be starter, alternator, belts, A/C compressor if you want A/C in the car it's going into.

The 3rd gen Prius engine is also used in the Corolla. I think there it has belts on the crankshaft pulley. Also, on the Prius application there's a blank plate where the Corolla has the starter motor.
