What do you think when you see those long lines at the Costco gas pump?

I'm thinking "damn I'm going to hate being in that line about 5 weeks from now".

I think.... you get to choose what car you drive.... you do not get to choose the price of gas

We don't have Costco around here. How cheap are they compared to regular gas stations?

Costco and Sam's usually match the lowest cost gas stations in the area. Sam's has an additional 5% rebate, using their credit card. I've noticed the lines getting longer, even during mid-day. I'll usually go down the street; if the line is more than a couple of cars deep - my time is worth more than the couple of bucks saved.
Seems like prices out here has peaked; hopefully heading down. I'm a little over a half a tank and will probably have to fill-up in 2 or 3 weeks.

Glad the ICE doesn't have to run for a 30 minute 100 yard crawl

Sit in an idling line of vehicles for half an hour, to save maybe a buck?

I said bye to Costco about 3 years back, anyway.

Had a couple of stations catty-corner at an intersection on the highway here. A Wawa replaced one. When it first opened, it was packed. Wawa is a good convenience store with sub shop, and it have been the better corner, but there were lines for the pumps, and literally no one at the other station.

The price difference was a penny per gallon.

The only gas lines I've waited were for the local supermarket pumps. Points from shopping at the store expired every quarter. With 3 months of time, with special promotions, it wasn't hard to get over 50 cents off a gallon. So there would be lines in those final days. The store has since changed how points expire, so there is no longer an end of quarter rush.

We also have BJ's around here. The membership stores are 5 to 10 cent cheaper than the lowest stations from what I've seen. Unfortunately for me, the Costco I use doesn't have pumps.

I'll likely do the same when I finally switch to a BEV. Until then, I get enough rewards on their credit card from buying gas elsewhere to cover more than the annual fee.

I shop Costco for more than their gas. Very pleased with their prices and quality of food items. While their gas may be only twenty cents cheaper than the least expensive gas in the area, the savings for me is more than that. With my Costco credit card I get a 4% discount on gas and as I am an executive member I get an additional 2% off anything I buy there. So if the cheapest local gas is $4. per gallon, I effectively pay $3.57 per gallon. Not a big deal for the PP, but it is when I have to fill up the 4Runner.

Similar to what I see at a long line for a car wash...."nope". (y)

I usually come back in the evening and lo and behold....no line!

When gassing up the plugin a few months ago (still at ¾ full) at Costco, the hideous line still seemed less painful then having to push the shopping cart through the store - ever so slooooowly for she-who-must-be-obeyed.

Even a hybrid Prius could probably EV mode it to the pump. Still, I’m tired of buying my peanut butter two jars at a time, and it always was $400~500 CDN before we got outa their warehouse…

I've seen as much as a $0.50 per gallon savings compared to Shell/Chevron. At one point, I thought it was as high as $0.75 savings per gallon for Costco gas here in Southern Cal.

If it wasn't clear, I was talking about 2 neighboring non-Costco stations where a cent meant lines at one and no business at the other.

We don't have Costco around where we live, but we have membership for Sam's Club and also for BJ's. It is a bit of a drive to get there so we don't go there often enough. Certainly not for filling gas. But I just checked on the GasBuddy and checked the gas prices. I did not find either of those two gas prices to be any cheaper than nearby gas stations. In fact, there are many cheaper name-brand gas stations, Citgo, Gulf, Irvine, Shell nearby where I would be able to pump without waiting in line. The average gas price must have come down a bit in the last few days, the Gasbuddy is showing the lowest price of $3.79/gal at a no-name brand gas station and $3.85/gal for many name-brand stations now.
