This will seem like a dumb question for my first post, but oh well...

We bought a 2016 Prius Model 4 on Sunday. I'm transferring things over and realize the trash bag we had before, doesn't seem like it'll work on this car. We had a black bag with a handle that looped over the gear shift lever on the Camry...but the Prius has a "gear shift lever" that is unlike any other.

I don't really want trash scattered all around the car, and with my whole family having hay fever, a place to stash the used soggy Kleenexes seems needed.

What did you find works the best?

My wife places trash in the door pockets. I wouldn't say it is best but since it's fairly useless as cup holders. They work well for trash.

Not a dumb question. But I have a dumb response...

I very seldom have, or had, trash in my car. Does that make me weird? Or maybe I just don't have a life! :ROFLMAO:
On the rare times I do have a little trash, I immediately dump it at the nearest trash can I see. Or as soon as I get home. I never leave trash in the car.

You might try hanging your trash bag over the passenger seat headrest (facing rearward).

I hope you enjoy your new Prius. (I also came from a Camry.)

Don't know if this works in a 2016, but...

Good idea... But dont think that would fit in a Gen4? It's 3 X 6 X 6. Just one of my LARGE coffee cups might fit in it. :)

Some of us just don't want to hold that used tissue or other newly generated trash in one of our hands until we get home or locate an external trash bin. Thus, the need for some place to put it in the car.

I understand. I just use a simple plastic grocery bag, placed on the passenger side floor. Remove it when I get home.

I use a black reusable grocery bag from the supermarket attached to the passenger headrest with an S-Biner.

Since I now drive a relatively green car, I have become a big fan of a reusable mug.

The folks at the coffee shops around her can mostly figure out this one (if you add arrows with a sharpie to show the top twists off):

McDonalds still refuses to refill, but I expect they will see the light someday.

Edited to be a bit less preachy-- I will save that for other places :)

I use a trash bag that I picked up from a local car wash. This particular car wash, as well as several others in this area, carry anything that you might require for inside the car (air fresheners, steering wheel covers, floor mats, etc.). You may have luck in an automotive store also. I put a length of stick-back Velcro on the right side of the center console, and a piece on the back of the plastic trash bag. It stays out of the way on the passenger side, and is easy to reach when you need to. The adhesive will not hurt the console finish when removed.

So far, I have yet to generate any trash. I'm keeping this baby as eco friendly as possible! ;)

An alternative solution is the universal tablet holder. Some features that aren't obvious are foldable arms that you can spread to hold a bag for trash. The tablet holder portion is also detachable so you store it away.

You're the first person I've heard mention the Universal Tablet Holder. My car came with one (in the box). $100 on the MSRP window sticker.

I wouldn't want trash to be that high. By the way, the other part (you mentioned) is easily removed, by pulling headrest out... then sliding the bracket off the head rest bars.

I have no use for it and would love to sell mine (in the box - never used). Hit me up with a PM if anyone is interested.

I use the same type of bag, but I put the velcro hooks on the bottom. I stick it behind the console in the rear floorboard.
The hooks attach nicely to the carpet.
I also use plastic grocery bags as a liner.

When on a road trip, say from Ma to Fl and back a few weeks later, you sorta live in your car, and need a way to keep things organized.

    daboo,

I use a drawstring-type small shopping bag, like an Apple computer bag. It is
    good quality, double lined.
Place one drawstring around the shifter. Loose enough as not to affect shifting.
Hang it on the passenger side.
If it is just family, I leave it when I have a passenger.
A guest, I take it off and place it on the backseat floor.
It is mostly dry napkins, paper. No food stuff that would rot and stink.

When it is time, I just get a new bag.

    Works well!

I use something like this. Put a bag in it. Pop that latch where the pouring spout is when I need to toss something in then close it. Doesn't spill/leak if it tips over. IF there is food stuff then I empty it at next stop. Keeps odors to a minimum as well. Just be careful of the stank just in case you forget to empty it for a while . But I try not to eat in the car anyway.

I found a bin for the C on EBay, similar to the one on Amazon that @Lee Jay linked. Fits in the door water bottle holder. I think I might get one.

    I can't link yet since I'm a newb here.
