What do we give up with CarPlay?

Hi! Question: What exactly do we give up when yanking out the Entune system and replacing it with a CarPlay system?

I understand that the backup camera and steering-wheel controls can still work, but things like (1) changing settings, (2) obsessively checking my gas mileage, and (3) watching the energy flow in and out of my batteries – I'm not so clear on. None seem like they would be a gigantic loss.

What else does the stock screen do that I'm not aware of?

Also: Would the USB port still work? Does the voice button on the steering will summon Siri?

Before I bought my car, I read the horror stories here on the forums about the Entune system, but three days into owning my new-to-me 2014 Prius v Five, I am shocked to see how bad it really is.

    Thanks!

I would be curious to know this as well if anyone has and experience and can speak to what you loose (well for android auto, but same thing).

Be sure when comparing Entune that you have the latest firmware for the head unit and the latest maps. Makes a big difference. I know it is expensive but I just this past few days dealt with someone who was using android auto for nav, someone who was using Entune from 2012 and me who was using Entune with updates. Makes a difference.

I'm trying out Android Auto and Android Auto Mate but so far only on my current Samsung Note 4 instead of also the car screen. Anyone know how to get it to show up on my car screen (2013 Prius v 5)?

I'm seriously considering upgrading my cell to iPhone 7 Plus, so I'm also interested in knowing about the options for iPhones.

I have the same 2013 Prius v5 as you. It will not show Android Auto on the screen. I have given up on the factory installed Entune system and just use my phone. The phone has a 5.5 inch screen that is almost the same size as the built-in system and it has up to date maps, traffic and it's easier to use.
Some people have replaced the original head unit to get the Android Auto functionality but it's expensive and may lose some options of the built-in system.

    Thanks, Em... ,

While I liked the Android Auto and Auto Mate apps, it was causing a problem with my Bluetooth to where I had to cut it off on my cell and immediately recut it back on to work after making a call.

Hence I uninstalled Android Auto but now can't uninstall the auto mate app. It's frustrating due to how I am having close out a few items out of the app just to do anything on my cell so it seems.

I'm tired of all the OS updates on my Samsung Note 4 and how most is first saved to my HD instead of my external memory card. Hence, I'm seriously considering switching over to iPhone in a few months (once cell is paid for and new versions are out).

    Update:

I ended up holding off and upgrading my cell from Note 4 to a iPhone 8 plus.

I rarely ever use the gas mileage on the gps screen, but I do all the time on the skiny, car display up top. I doubt that display section would be bothered but just guessing.

I don't care for Sirius XM due to not only the extra cost but also the bad/sales shark service. I am forced to primarily use my radio buttons next to the screen instead of the steering wheel ones for regular radio use or have to constantly have to switch it bck.To radio from satelitte. Hence another reason I am unhappy with the Entune and XM.

Now one extra thing for me to take into consideration is my Entune unit has a single cd/dvd slot behind it that I love for watching movies.

Lastly, ideally a unit that is dual Android and Apple. Does that exist?

Hope this helps and also thanks to everyone on their feedback, too.

Built in amplified Microphone is the biggest simple feature I see going away when yanking out OEM info. It's a big deal when using it at higher speeds.

The 3rd party microphone locations are at not as optimal location as built in microphone.
