2003 Prius. #761 touch up paint for Aqua Ice Opalescent. Bought 1/2 oz applicator 5 years ago to have it in case I needed it. Opened it to check color, but never used it. Re-opened it yesterday to touch up many small dings from heavy I-95 traffic I've traveled over the years. But it's thick and sludgy. What kind of thinner can I use to make it slightly more fluid?
You might want to buy a new one. Is the one you have the brush style, the brush on a wand attached to the inside of the cap? When we got our 2010 8 mo's back, I picked up a paint pen from the dealer: it has color at one end, and clear coat at the other. It is very thin, very easy to apply tiny amounts, and it smooths out and blends seamlessly. If the pen's available in your area I'd go for it. I've used both styles, and brush type are bad for thickening, and it's hard to get seamless results. Actually impossible: I'd just stroke it on, and then avoid looking too close at the result.
I'm not an expert & have had mixed results with the touch up paint on the Metallic Gray & the Silver. I used rubbing alcohol as a thinner. The brush is gloppy & I can't get the pen end to work. I use ScratchX to blend the repair & remove the extra paint. Patience is key. You'll want to use tiny amounts of paint & you'll need to wait for it to cure.
I'm new to chat so have no idea if this will reach you. But thank you and the other person who made suggestions. Thank you both!
