So I have a 2006 with 200k miles, and I can not get gas in this thing to save my life. I mean I can but I have to essentially have the whole nozzle out and do it VERY slow. Like painfully slow, and it won’t let me go faster. I normally do a gallon or two and then pull the nozzle out and let it breathe and then do little by little until full. It will burp out gas occasionally too, it’s a pain to go rinse the car every time too. I’ve already did the gas reset trick or whatever it’s called. Idk I’d just like to fill it somewhat normal and not spend 20 minutes at the station. Is this just common and I have to live with it or something I should do/fix? This is my first Prius and have done some research just looking for further guidance.

UPDATE: just recently got codes, P0441 and P0455. I’m wondering if I replace the evap canister, will it help with the fueling issue? Also I noticed the gas cap isn’t OEM so I’m going to replace that as well

I wouldn't think the gas cap would help you It's off the car when you're fueling. The evap I mean that's a real stretch but usually on the evap it's just a little solenoid that's acting up well on most of the cars I'm not sure about this one My sienna van has this problem every five six seven years and I replace this little solenoid in the back on the EVAP canister and bracket assembly and the problems finished The canisters never flooded or anything like that it's not really bad it's just the evap valve is not switching so it sets the code in my sienna in the Toyota Prius it may be slightly different but by looking back there at the tank I see the same valve that's in my sienna with a plug and a little filter on it

Has the rear quarter of the car ever been hit has it always been like this since you've had it the fuel If you look back there behind the fuel door under the car you'll see where the problem Mars look at the tiny little feed hose that goes from the filler neck to the gas tank eventually Not going to be a whole lot of running fuel through that doesn't seem anyway but in most of mine I can pull up with a flashing pip set the pump on fast and the first click will go off at 6.3 or 4 gallons and then I can run into about halfway or a little lower depending upon how the pumps are operating and bring it right up to 8.4 and that is slam full bladder flexing whatever.

Symptoms like that go beyond any kind of ordinary Prius weirdness that you should live with. Something in the ORVR system is effed up, and you will enjoy refueling much more when it's fixed. See this post et seq..

Maybe; the evap system and the ORVR system share components. The codes are about incorrect purge flow. Their sections in the repair manual probably have sequences of troubleshooting steps you can use before springing for a canister—the canister's not the only part of that system, so it could be frustrating to replace that and then learn the issue was elsewhere.

What I've learned refueling four generation twos is pull up from the pump so that your fuel tank at Sheetz is level with the yellow pole that's farthest away from your pump usually a column will be going up here holding up the roof over the pumps so that the pump hose is taught from the top of the pump fitting all the way to your tank The nozzle the part you're squeezing with your hand Is that like 3:00 You put the nozzle in maybe 1 in into the rubber that runs around the fuel hole that you fill in at that point I can set the mess to the third click high speed and it will run in right at 5 gallons maybe 6.3 and stop I'm usually standing right there and then with the pump and handle still articulated the same way depending upon how many people are pumping gas I can usually pull the lever just a little bit below the slow click with activating hold it there until it's 8.4 gallons and the gas is just touching the rubber seal that goes around the hole that the nozzles in when I go to pull the nozzle out it will begin to start to burp and I leave the nozzle there so it doesn't come out onto the side of the car just for a few seconds and then I start to withdraw the nozzle and the fuel that's still in the nozzle I can hear it dropping out and then as I fully withdraw the nozzle and hang it up the fuel is sitting at an angle right there almost ready to dump out of the car onto the body panel and I put the cap on get in the car and start driving this is how it is for pretty much all four of them fueling takes 3 minutes or something this isn't sheetz. All over the southeast USA
