That could be a reasonable price, but buying anything the first day is usually a bad idea. It's better to shop and research first. See Consumer Reports magazine April issue (in any library) or online for good car buying advice.

Oh, I've been researching extensively for a month. It seems like the best offer in the area. Just need a few outside opinions before I throw down that kind of money.

Good! The best opinions are offers in writing from as many other dealers as you are willing to consider. That finds the best price actually available to you. If that's what you have now, then gopher it :_>

That is only $500 less than I bought mine for over a year and half ago. I think they could do better (mats, additional service, tint, etc).

Thanks for the input. It's claimed to be $500 below invoice. I asked them to add a few other features (it includes mats, rear bumper applique) such as a 3rd key FOB, mud flaps, cargo net. So far, it seems as if they aren't willing to negotiate any further unless it's in person. I'm so leery of buying from a dealer. It seems like the selections of 2010s are dwindling and not a lot of used 2010s out there. Yes, I'm set on a G3.

Was the $500 less (compared to mine) after taxes & all? Taxes could be different up in Alaska. 9.5% here.

Check edmunds.com the invoice price is $21,432. So $500 below invoice should be $20,932.00 (this is before delivery and options). Delivery should be like 800 and mats should be 200, so invoice is about 22,432.00. So your $500 below invoice should be more like $21,932.00

MSRP for 2010 pkg II base should be 22,800. Then add delivery :). Your mats will add $200 to the price also. So $22,800 + delivery + mats = MSRP

Yeah, they're claiming invoice to be $22872.60 after all dealer fees (TDA, holdback, delivery) and the carpet mats & rear bumper applique.
Does edmunds include dealer fees in their invoice prices?

Thank you for the feedback--it's really helping me to make a smart & sound decision rather than just jumping into something!

I'm finding that they won't really negotiate any on the price via email. Is it a common dealer tactic to get me into the store for them to feast on me in person? They dealer is 1.5 hrs away from where I live.

Go to Costco with their auto purchasing program and see if they can at least beat this teaser price.

if you're going to drive 90 minutes to negotiate in person, are you willing to drive 90 minutes back without a car? really, if you have priced the car around at all th dealerships within an hour and a half of you, what more do you want? what difference does it make what dealer cost or invoice is? you can't buy it directly from toyota. the best price is the best price. everyone else is higher. are you not going to buy it because everyone is above invoice and that just isn't right? is it against your principles? i can buy one here in the boston area for under 20K, what good is that to you? just do it!:)

Ask the dealer for the Costco price (assuming you are a member)...

I searched (ToyotaCertified.com) Prius inventory in the 98225 zip and only found (2) 2010's and they were both higher mileage and near as many $$ as your new car offer. Looks like Prius pricing is driven by too much demand for supply. I was hoping I could find a very low mile 2010 Prius (demo?), but none available in your zip code. Of course, you can expand the search in hopes of finding something. This is what I did. I found mine 700 miles away. And it's been worth every mile I drove to get it!

Maybe you'll have to pull up your Prius panties and pay to play. At least that's what your dealer wants you to do.

i just purchased mine on Thursday night.
    Sell Price: $21,653
    Doc Fee: $250
    Tax: $1478 (6.75%)
    Title Fee: $33
    minus $1000 rebate
    OTD=$22,415

This must be a great price in Ohio as multiple dealers said "I'm Out...I cant beat that price"

I was actually surprised how smooth the negotiations went. I emailed about 12 dealers telling them what I wanted. I told them the county I live in (for tax calculations). Asked them for their OTD price (including the $1000 rebate). I did give them my phone number should they have questions. Only two called me.
The next day, I sent another email to everyone and said "Here is my best OTD offer" Please let me know if you can beat it. Many replied that the figures couldn't be correct. I had a dealer 15 minutes from my house beat the best price by $1.

    I think I did okay....

    Good Luck
