So I basically never ride in the passenger seat of our 2007. Except yesterday, when I had an eye appointment and after dilation my vision was too blurry to drive safely, so my wife drove. So sitting there I happened to notice that the space between the two halves of the glovebox is not uniform. It starts out quite small near the center of the car and gets smoothly wider towards the door, where it maxes out at something like 1/4 or 1/3 of an inch. Both glovebox "door" surfaces seem to be sitting squarely in their surroundings, and both open and close smoothly. That varying gap size isn't visible to me from the driver's seat. Is that wedge shaped gap the way it is supposed to be?
Yep And sometimes there's a bulge in the dash plastic about a third of the way down along the edge of the back edge of the top glove box towards the door when you're sitting anywhere in the car if the car has this problems quite annoying to look at your eyes drawn to it when you look towards the windshield out the front of the car or it's probably just me I only have one car that has this problem. But the glove box seam you're describing is in all of them . Even in the cars where I've installed the '04 '05 painted glove boxes in the later model car they fit perfectly but that edge you describes the same
OK, thanks. Odd to see a gap that varies like that in a car. I mean, other than one that has been wrecked or put together incorrectly.
Maybe pop the glove box out, check it's seated properly on the hinges? Probably is but who knows. Check condition of cabin filter while you're at it.
Yeah that's the gap I thought you were talking about right next to the SRS airbag logo. That's because well for one on this guy's car the spring is broken the little land that the spring sits on it breaks from people messing with the glove box when it doesn't go up and smacking it up and all that sort of thing so the spring comes off of its place where it's supposed to be held and then the glove box tries to cock a little sideways and starts hitting on the forward edge of the dash top right about the same area that edge where the screw goes . Usually you can't fix that upper glove box so you're going to be looking at a million of them trying to find one that doesn't have the broken spring Believe it or not on one of mine I took some urethane like you put the windshield in with and put some on the spring and put some in the place where it's supposed to be put the spring where it's supposed to be and put this little clamp affair that I had to clamp it down and let the urethane cure It's still holding I didn't think it would work 5 seconds but the hump in the dash you're going to play a lot of funny business trying to get that out I would just grab another dash top that doesn't have that curvature in it I have three or four laying here and I put one of them in the '09 that had this problem now it doesn't.
