Hi all. Took out boot panels to find a lot of water had settled and been sitting under the cubby on the left of the boot. I’ve mopped it up and cleaned muddy stuff. What’s this white/cream stuff? Is it OEM, or a precautionary afterthought? Anyone know where the water comes in from, and why it settles here?

I’ve had a look at that, but can’t see any cracks anywhere in the usual locations.

To find leaks into a trunk/hatch area one normally has to pull everything out of the trunk, including the plastic pieces that hide the sheet metal, and the spare tire. Then one person sits in there and watches for water while another sprays the car gently with a hose, starting low, and then working up, until water is observed. If you have to do this by yourself tape pieces of paper towel all over the place, and climb into the back through the rear doors for an inspection after testing one small area at a time. It is not unheard of for a car to leak from more than one area.
