If I buy a new Prius and don't take it to a Toyota dealer for maintenance, will they void the warranty?

What about parts not bought at a Toyota dealership?

There is not a problem having your new car serviced at a non-Toyota service facility. You can even DIY.

You will need to keep good records to show that you have met all of Toyota's recommended maintenance requirements. That goes for parts also, you will need to be able to verify that the replacement parts met or exceeded Toyota's specs. You will need this in case you have a warranty issue and need to take the car to a Toyota dealer for warranty repair. You will need to be able to verify that the warranty issue was not caused by lack of proper maintenance.

How do you verify these things? Receipts?

Yes, receipts with date, mileage, service performed and listing part numbers of parts, fluids, etc. used. Someone had an excellent idea of including the vehicle VIN number on the service report to verify the vehicle being serviced.
