Last night I got into my 2001 Prius and when i started it the check engine light came on, the trinagle with the exclamation point came on and in the display was a car with an exclamaiton point on it. It turnerd the car on and off several time and it came back. I went into a restaurant for about 2-1/2 hours and when I came out and started the car, none of these lights came on and they haven't come on since. The manual says something about a moter, inverter or hybrid syst4m fault and I was supposed to call the Toyotat dealer right away. Does anyone know wht this display means? I am taking it to the dealer for a checkup on tuesday. Thanks.

I took the car to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a bad gas tank. The service manager said that the gas tank should not have failed in this short of time and mileage. He called Toyota and they are replacing it free of charge.

Thanks for the update! It sounded to me like a vented gas tank. I think you can get the same disaster christmas lights if you don't have the gas cap on tight.

Thanks again for the follow up post, bturner425.
