2007 Prius...it currently won't start so it needs repairs...i am considering the plugin mod while having it serviced...will you share some info with me...
    is it worth the cost?
    What is the cost?
    What are the results?
Does it use the current battery and just ad connections?
Can my mechanic do it, if he is reasonably intelligent?

Spend some time searching the threads, there are lots of options. Unless your mechanic is hybrid trained his is likely not and option. While some of the systems are DIY others require factory trained installers. If you don't know what you are doing or are careless you can fry the car or yourself.

The results from the PHEV conversion is largely dependant upon your driving habits.
If you are in a warm area of the country and drive13-17 miles each way to work you will get huge benifits in mpg (say around 100-125).
If you drive longer distances between charges, not so much.
