Just bought a 2014 Prius. It does not have the Homelite backup mirror/garage door opener. Can I take a Homelite mirror from a 2008 Prius and put it on the 2014 and do the wiring through the dome light connectors?;)

Oh there is a garage door opener option Smart mirror business for the generation 3 Is there not I'm almost positive I don't have it I don't even think it's in my 2010 solar roof JBL car but we don't have a garage door to open I have a '07 with the smart mirror I didn't realize it was a smart link garage capable thingy but it doesn't seem to dim at night The lights on it seems to work whatever but it's there It doesn't seem like it changes from day night properly but I don't know what a working one really does this is not glass that darkens I don't imagine it just angles or does whatever by itself I'm not sure I haven't really spent the time to read about it or anything but I don't think that would easily work but it might You could mount the mirror I believe it'll fit no problem and then behind the headliner up there above said mirror there should be a connector some of these cars had solar roofs and power roofs and whatever sunroof so there is plug up there and if you were to cut the '08's plug back and get the car side of the connection You could splice that in.

I don't know if the mirror has to communicate with a said computer or whether it's all self-contained in the mirror..

I added a Homelink unit to my 2008 White base. I pulled it from a junkyard one and just tapped into switched power on the fuse box. AFAIK the controller contains everything into it. Be sure to get the harness from the donor car to. I'm not sure of the mounting on a Gen 3.

So adding this on the 2008 you just added the electronic mirror that has the buttons to open the garage door I guess it's programmable or something I just cut one of these out today of a loaded generation too so I can just literally stick it in my car and pick up the power and everything is contained in the mirror. That'll be jiggy.

Yes you can get a Gentex Homelink mirror and install it. I did it ten years ago. Homelink mirrors only require power and ground.

The “issue” is no switched 12v is up there. You either run a wire up the panels (one of which is an airbag) or you do what I did and simply wire it to constant 12v (6ma) and call it a day.

Most homelink in cars are powered up all the time anyway, as is the factory installed mirror in my 2022 hybrid. They also can have autodimming, a nice feature my retrofit homelink mirror came with.

This is the electric auto dimming thing out of a 2009 loaded JBL car with no day or night switch on the bottom of the mirror and a few buttons across the bottom but there's got to be wires up above because I got a light above my sunglass holder so I should be able to come right off that 12 volt up there that's powering the light I hope looks like I was just unscrew the mess tap into that and feed it through the edge of the headliner and down to the mirror it would come seems to be the most reasonable I got the car side of the plug and everything

One of the buttons is a power switch. Turn it off and the mirror stays in ‘day’ and the mirror does not draw the 6 ma standby current - useful for long inactive periods like airport parking of three weeks or more.

What I don't have is that little piece of duct that goes over the cord on the windshield but I saw it today and a perfect condition padded steering wheel that I go back and get Monday
