We've been looking at a Prius and then I started looking at the Prius Prime. With the tax credit it's roughly the same as the regular Prius. Our electric rate is 5-7 cents a KWH so that seems to make it worth it.

We finally saw a 2019 in person (The only one in 100 miles here in Ohio). The truck isn't much smaller, not sure why I'd need a 5th seat but coming from a 2008 with no blue tooth my reading makes me like Apple Car Play. (already have an iphone)

My current car is somewhere between last leg and not really safe. The dealer says 2020s are being made but none are allocated to our region. So, it's request one to be built which is 2-3 months with travel time or try to see if they can do an "a trade" with another dealer for one in production which could still be some time.

Anything I'm missing on prime vs. regular prius? I know a regular prius can have oil change, brakes, etc at a regular shop. Is the same true for the prime or not?

    Thoughts? Thanks!

    welcome!

yes same for prime. noting special needed for the first 120k, except warranty work, and that's free at the dealer anyways.
some prius have a spare tire, and of course, the package options are all different.

prime is a great choice for the money.

    all the best!(y)

I would get 2020 for the following:

    - Extra seat
    - Cosmetic changes (no more white panels)
    - Heated seat button in a more friendly location
    - Rebates incentives that could come down in price or cheaper than a regular Prius
    - Most important item "APPLE CAR PLAY" :D (Still hoping Android Auto that we can retro when it is ready)

Maintenance is similar to regular Prius but Prime is more efficient even in full HV mode.

As some have mentioned before, the 5th seat will improve the resale value even if you don’t care about having it
