Volt gets more discounts to move inventory off dealers' lots

    GM offers big rebates on the Chevy Volt - Jun. 10, 2013

    Increased competition, a more crowded market are just a few of the reasons for the latest discounts.

    Now, if only a steep discount is offered to existing lease holders of the Volt, that would be a smart move on GMs' behalf. Rather than turn in the Volt at the end of the lease, you could get a real good buy.

    This is a win/ win for the customer as well as the dealers keeping their lots open for the 2014 arrivals.

    Also, this could be a win for GM: shows they care about owner loyalty.:)

    Sigh... Nightly Business Report just reported on the $4K incentive but made some factual errors and misleading statements. They said it doesn't require any gasoline and called it "all electric". [​IMG] They also referred "lowering the price" rather than an incentive.

    Well lower prices either way may help get people interested.. so its acceptable press. Better than some that spin the incentive as another sign of failure when its really just adjusting to what the market is doing.

    The market is reality, GM is trying to adjust to the increased competition. If, the current strategy works, then GM could have a chance at substainability with the Volt.

    If not, then, what other options can be played out with the Volt?

    To this day, the masses do not understand what the Volt is. Hence the misinformation on the vehicle.

    Yep, media is clueless on the Volt. Can't blame the dealerships, they need to move the Volt off their lots, to make room for new inventory.
    What is not known is the expired leases on Volts coming back to the dealerships' lots - what impact will they have, being used and taking up valuable lot space?

    Same deal w/the Leaf. Many folks are leasing and paying HUGE payments vs. recent Leaf lease deals. I don't recall if the residuals were inflated but IIRC they are, meaning, almost nobody will want to pay to buy their Leaf after the lease is up.

    The stories on the Leaf's predicted resale and the trends I've been seeing haven't been good.
