WOW!! Finally!! Specific light rim for Prius. More spec would be nice. Can it beat 15" Traklite 10lbs?

16x6JJ is for Touring Ed. I've never seen an after market rim with that dimension before.

BTW, I am not a vendor. I am a potential Prius owner just doing some research on the car. I am a long time member of NASIOC.com in the market for a new Prius.

    Cheers!

I am in contact with Fuji Corporation (in Japan) if they offer a discount for a group buy.

On their website, a pair of 15" and snow tires for around $1,340. However, the shipping cost the site estimated to US is more than the price. I asked them to check for more accurate shipping fee and if they can sell just the rims.

    I'll keep you posted...

I might be interested in purchasing four of those rims; 16" size, along with a set of lighter weight 205/55-16 handling oriented all season tires.

Do keep us posted and PM me if you'd like to discuss further!

If it helps, I believe Evasive Motorsports is a U.S. distributor for Volks.

They're a sponsor on another board I frequent, and they seem to have had good feedback there. If there was enough interest I'm sure they'd be able to put together a group buy.

I called them and most of them were out on lunch. The guy who answered did not know the price and asked me to call back in an hour. I did and the second guy didn't know either. It seems they will need more time to find out the price since their latest price catalog dates July 2007.

Update on order from Fuji Corporation:

First, they don't offer discount on bulk/group buy. Air shipping quote to 11357 is 39,000 yen for 4 rims and 59,000 for rim/tire combo. I've asked for the most economical shipping price, not necessarily air.

The web site does not have the price for just the rim set and I replied to get the price. The lowest rim/tire combo is the 15" for 140,500 yen with CEAT Spider tires. With shipping, it came out to be $1,695.

They also have 15" rims with Michelin Energy XM1 set for 153,800 yen. With shipping, it came out to be $1,808. Energy XM1 seems to be a very good tire with low rolling resistence.

    Ok, the price for

    (4) x 15" rims is 126,000 yen ($1,071) + $332 air shiping = $1,403
    (4) x 16" rims is 137,000 yen ($1,165) + $332 air shipping = $1,497

I've asked for shipping fee by boat.

I also called my local area reseller and they said the price is $425-$450 per rim.

I'm another NASIOC member (SLIG). I love my Subarus, but the mpgs of the Prius make more sense for my commute. Prius Traction control does NOT equal Subaru AWD! I bought the Prius to save commuter miles from my Impreza, but find I really enloy driving the Prius though. In the past year, I put 25K on the Prius, and the Impreza is my weekend car. Sorry for drifting (bad choice of words) off topic, but couldn't resist the NASIOC reference!

Back to topic: those wheels look cool, but look like a pain to clean with all the nooks and crannies. I prefer a smoother look.

I have an 03 WRX and commute 100 miles daily to work. I like the power and the uniqueness of owning a Subaru, but my baby wants more space in the back for her car seat. Plus, after 15+ years of clutching and lowered cars, I think a nice smooth gas sipper would be a welcome change. But I doubt it'll stop the mod bug in me! :D

Welcome to the board! In a similar boat here. We have an '05 Saab 92X aero (wrx wagon) and have just added the '05 Prius to the fleet. I was struggling to get 20mpg in the wrx, routinely getting 50mpg in the Prius. Ok, I wasn't struggling very hard. Can't say I'm in any way disappointed driving the Prius. Using the display to try and optimize mileage seems to satisfy some of the same desires that trying to perfect the launch in the wrx did B) A nice surprise was how much more room there is in the back seat. We had to move the front passenger seat up half to keep our little guys legs from hitting it. In the Prius, passenger seat is full back and its not even close.

To keep vaguely on topic, nice wheels!

Another light weight option might be the TOM's wheels at www.newtoyotaparts.com.

I looked at the manufacturer's site, and it appears that they're somewhat lighter than the stock rims, but not as light as these...and they do seem like they'd be easier to clean.

The TOM's wheels are 16", too; the site recommends 195/55's but the only way I'd spend two grand on these wheels (or something similar) is if I could get 205/55's under there, instead...higher maximum pressures than most /65's (like the 195's I've got on my stock 15" wheels) also.

Just a thought. Delivery time is 8-12 weeks.

I know Rota wheels are really popular with the Subaru crowd for inexpensive options. I asked if they have anything that'll fit on a Prius, and they mentioned that the Tarmac II will fit in a 17" size. I don't have the weight at the moment, but I know it'll definitely be cheaper than Volk's.

Personally, I've had 2 sets of Rota's on my Subaru and find them to be a great alternative to the more expensive wheels out there.

The shipping price by boat cost more than by air! So, that's the best deal I can get.

I think for the money, and with the two color options, I would want to see them before I bought. It would be nice to be able to go to a performance shop and talk with someone about the wheels, look at them, and decide on a wheel and tire combination.

I still like them and I am intrigued by the possibility of the MPG increase. B)

I sent emails to a couple of Southern California performance shops with whom I have dealt in the past. We'll see.

Edit: Response received already from one of the shops...and I was unaware that they came in bronze, which is the color I was hoping for, to go with my Driftwood Pearl :D

"We can get the Eco wheels for you straight from Japan which will take 6-8 weeks minimum.

    15" - $1550 OTD picked up
    16" - $1679 OTD picked up
We can get silver or bronze... Any other color will be at an additional cost."
