Voice Recognition question

    My Silver 06 Package 4 should be in port now and am expecting it in a few more days.
    I came across it's review on edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpcont...0668257/roadtestarticle.html&articleId=100988).

    That review mentions that the voice recognition system is included in the base package.

    I had always assumed that you could do stuff like control the temperature and other things through verbal commands only if you have the navation system.

    Somebody please tell me I am wrong!

    I recall that the lowest package number with any kind of voice recognition is Package 5, which includes BlueTooth.

    I have 2006 package 5. Voice recognition is part of this package with the blue tooth. I only have ability to speak commandes to the phone. Through voice commands you can select "dial by name" or "dial by number". Dialing by name lets you selct an entry in your phone book. Dialing by number lets you speak the number. I've had a few problems with the voice recognition inseting extra numbers on me with this one though.

    Thanks a lot for your replies guys.
    I am considering changing my order to package 6, because I am getting a better deal on package 6.
    So, if I do get a package 6, I cannot manipulate the climate control system and audion through voice recognition?
    Does anybody know what package level do you need for that one?

    I can only be sure of the following. I f you have the nav package, you will have the full range of voice apps: bluetooth, audio mode, temp, nav, and several others.
    I'm almost certain that package 7 is the first packege with all of the voice recognition features. I have package 7 and there are voice commands for many of the controls. BTW: I have found the voice recognition to be very good. Not, perfect, but very good. In spite of the experiences reported by '04 and '05 owners, I have no complaints about the nav package. I can do what I want to do with voice commands. I don't need to stop to set destinations, etc.

    I'm not quite sure based on your post, but do you have a 2006?

    If so, since voice recognition seems to work well for you, could you please try the procedure outlined in this post...

    It is a 2006. Pkg 7. I'll try to respond to your request soon ... but not tonight.
    But, it does work well, both for my wife and I.
