Has anyone installed a Viper SmartStart system in their v? I'm mainly looking for a long range two way remote start since being spoiled by having it in my previous vehicle and also my wife's. There's nothing like having a cooled down interior when it's 100 degrees outside. Also, I wasn't interested in the factory unit since I heard the range isn't that far an there's no way of knowing if the car started unless you can see the lights on the car flashing. So, does anyone have any experiences they can share, regrets, or what to expect from one of these systems?

I'm still trying to program the factory remote start so I can't comment yet. I did the install myself, which is basically an ecu and harness you remove plugs and connect. No cutting of wiring involved. Detailed instructions are available including where to put wire ties! There is a thread in accessories forum on this question.

This is the Toyota remote start system, which is completely plug and play. No splicing/cutting of wiring. I have not finished yet because I didn't want to pay the dealer $110... I am trying to do it on my own, but I think it requires the full Toyota Techstream, which costs a whopping $7995. I'm still looking for a Denso VIM (DN-VIM-001) to program it with.

Did you figure out if you need two remotes for the Viper system? I know that's the one that you can use the iPhone right? Others have posted that you'd need two remotes for the keyless access to still work. That would be a little pain, but I don't have personal experience with the Viper Smartstart. Since I'm in CA I really don't know anyone over in NJ I'm afraid, though I'll be in the New York area from the 2nd to the 5th...
