The only thing you need to do if you're going to leave it for more than a couple days is turn off the smart key. There's a button under the steering wheel. This will mean you have to pull out the fob when you return and press the unlock button to get in. It prevents the battery from running down looking for the fob. Other than that...same as any other car!

    Enjoy your new toy!

a week's fine... i've even left mine for 2 weeks and it was okay. likewise, i had turned off my SKS.

now i'm curious: what's the longest anyone's left their prius and still have it start when they came back?

Remember to turn OFF manually all electrical stuff before turning ignition off...it will drain battery otherwise.

please follow normal internet posting etiquette. posting in CAPS is considered shouting, and is difficult to read. thanks. (the more you know! :) )

I left mine in the airport last winter for a week and forgot to turn off the smartkey. I was worried that it might not start, but it did with no difficulty. However, I had driven it several hundred miles before parking it.

There is a TSB out since Nov 2003 that recommends that for 'longterm storage' ( they indicate over 2 weeks ) that the wiring harness to the positive terminal in the fuse box be disconnected. Since then many posters have reported leaving the vehicle for up to a month with just the SKS disabled.

If I was going to be away for more than 4 weeks I'd disconnect the wiring harness and shut down the entire system.

We've gone 1-2 weeks numerous times and never turned off anything special. Didn't even know there was an SKS shut-off button til just now.

    cheers

Same here. I'd completely forgotten about that button.
