Ultimate Lockpick 3 and iPod Interface Installs Sucessful !

Hello Johnathan,

I have an 07 Prius and have installed the Ultimate Lockpick 3 along with the EV and Auto Doorlock mods. I wanted to find an iPod interface also. I have talked to Coastaetech and understand theirs does not use the steering wheel or MFD controls but instead has a remote control that I don't think I would prefer due to added distraction and another accessory to keep up with. Can you tell me what interface you used, how it works, how it hooked up, how you like, etc.? Sure appreciate it!

Yes, I would like to know exactly HOW you plug the video Ipod into your Ultimate Lockpick 3.. Does it plug into the regular AUX port? Does the kit have you run a cable and create a new "video" AUX port?

What plugs into where.. can you show us the instructions?

The plug in that he is talking about is the I-Link by Valor. Be very careful to make sure that your generation ipod will work. My new 30gb Video ipod did NOT work because Apple changed their OS software. Valor is trying to make the fix, but, I got tired of waiting. I went to Radio Shack and purchased an audio/video cable with the ipod 3.5mm plug on one end. I plugged the red, white and yellow plugs into the lockpicks matching cables and routed the 3.5mm end into the back of the glovebox. It works great. You control the ipod from the ipod unit itself and it hides nicely in the glovebox. I paid about $10 for the cable instead of $119.00 for the I-link. Hope this helps.

Good for you! I did mine this weekend. And like you, scratched the dash. We should have seen that one coming, huh? I didn't go for the iPod interface, don't have one.

The RCA cable plugin jacks that come with the Ultimate Lockpick are a bit short at less than ten inches. I was wondering how you would expose these for future plug and play use.

Luckily, I found a great extension cable accessory from Radio Shack for $15 (Part No. 15-1997, male to female, "A/V Extend-a-Jack", with an S-video connector as well as RCA connectors for regular video and both right and left audio channels). The original purpose of this product was to replicate the rear connections of a VCR and bring them forward for easier connectivity.

Although the S-video connector was a waste, the rest of the cable was great. It had about ten inches of individual cables to plug into the Lockpick connectors (with another "piggyback", or Y, connector, if needed in the future) and then they all merged into one heavy 6-foot cable with a fabulous hard plastic terminal ending with all inputs on a flat plane, not unlike what you would expect on any other high end A/V component input connector. I hid the individual connectors behind the dash and routed the heavy part of the cable under the center lower dash cover and coiled it on the floor between the two front seats. It looks very professional. Other than the blatant Radio Shack logo.

Now, I have a convenient place to plug accessories into, and the cable can reach to the back seat for passengers with a mobile DVD player or other audio input device. Sometimes things just work out fine and we win. D.L.

 

I use the Gigabeat video/audo player with 3.5 mm output. Can't I just plug it in the aux and get video with the lockpick 3?
