When I drive my Prius C for Uber, my customers want to get where they are going quickly, but also safely. I often lament that, in order to get them there quickly, I have to use the ICE too much. Anyone have any expert driving strategies that will reduce the ICE usage, but also not seem too slow to the passengers?

Just drive the car. You can NOT have it both ways.

The car is programmed to optimize efficiency. No matter what you do, the computer take in all the inputs (speed, gas pedal demand, engine temperature, AC load, HV battery status, etc) and operates accordingly.

If I'm annoyed w/ you asking this question, and you are afraid of annoying customers b/c you want to play the game of maximum MPG, with them in the car, guess what, they will be annoyed. Time is a precious resource: you don't get it back.

How about this. When you are driving for money, just drive. If you were a passenger, would you not be annoyed with a driver who was trying to eek out every ounce of gas, causing the trip to be unnecessarily long? When you are off the clock, drive like an old lady, to recoup some lost efficiency. However, you will likely piss everyone else off around you, and may incite road rage.
