Has anybody had luck with aftermarket trunk lifters on the Prius V? The dealer parts seem to cost a lot more than aftermarket but looking on Rock Auto it is not clear if they sell aftermarket trunk lifters.

I bought aftermarket gas shocks to replace the originals for the tailgate of our 08 Odyssey. They were direct replacements so the physical dimensions were the same and it only took a few minutes to replace the originals.

They work fine but they have more extension pressure than the OEM's shocks which means that it is harder to pull the tailgate down which is a bit annoying. Depending on who you buy them from, you may or may not experience this.

As long as you match up the length and force for aftermarket options, it should be good.

We actually went with shorter gas struts on purpose to limit the lift height of our Gen3 Prius hatchback so it wouldn't hit the ceiling in our garage, and parking garages.
