Hi I have prius (plus+ in eu, or V in usa), but still.. engine and transaxle ar same like 3gen.. Engine have more like 500.000km (300.000miles), transaxle have original oil and i wanna change that. In my country Toyota atf ws price is not so cheap.. i thinking about Dexron VI, dexron have "ws" to.., can i use it? Thanks!
No, you should use Toyota WS. Others are incompatible with the electric motors and might not have the correct dielectric qualities.
How often are you planing on changing it? You said you have gone 300,000 miles without changing it. It should be worth it to use the correct fluid and go another 300,000 miles?
Maybe every 100-150k miles, but not every 30-40k like another people do, then better oem toyota atf ws? Dexron vi not so long life?
Yeah my price was $9.14 CDN per litre for Toyota ATF WS, last change, maybe 3 years ago. Current exchange rate that would be 6 euros, same as regular fluid for you. Considering it's just the once, and what's at stake, I would stick with Toyota. Frustrating though. Or at least a very close alternative, if someone knows.
I know others have used different brands other than Toyota. And claim no problems. That doesn't mean there aren't any, yet. Maybe you can use something else. But for me, The cost of the transmission is not worth the risk. In Florida, the cost difference is only $1-2, so I use the Toyota fluid. Since you are going to change it at 100,000 miles, how many months, or years will that be? So spending the extra money for the correct fluid over time is not that much. Plus the peace of mind knowing you did the job correctly. Have you tried looking on Ebay for it?
Get 4. Somewhere between 3.5 and 4.0, filling with the car raised and level, it'll start overflowing. That's correct level. 29 ft/lbs torque for both bolts.
