Just built/installed a Trailer Hitch for the 2001 Prius. I've ordered a 5000 watt DC/DC Converter from Enginer to install in the Prius itself, and utilize the 200ah 48vdc LiFePO4 battery pack mounted in the EV Range Extender. I hope it'll prove to be a worthy experiment.
I apologize in advance for the weird way the photos posted in the new thread. I edited that original post, with imbedded photos, and here is a link to the EV Extender/Rescue Trailer. It's battery pack is what will power the 5K Enginer.us converter to be mounted in the Prius itself. Nice! should give you about 35 miles on EV mode i think? You using just for EV, or blending all the time?
I'll try using it with both modes. In town, I can get away with traveling under 35mph most of the time. It'll be interesting when driving on the highway as well, and see how many miles blending will help with mpg, if any. Unfortunately, Enginer is backlogged with orders for the 5K converter. It'll be over 2 weeks before it arrives.
We'll mount the DC/DC Converter over the battery pack, thus keeping the high voltage wires very short, and running just the low voltage (48vdc) battery pack wiring into the Prius from the Extender Trailer, with an anderson interconnect between the trailer/car. The lower voltage DC/DC converter will remain in the Extender Trailer for use with other pure EV's.
